Bayern Munich v Man United Prediction, Preview & Odds – Champions League

We have a Bayern Munich v Man United prediction plus betting odds as we preview this big opening round Champions League Group A clash.

Bayern Munich are coming into this game in good domestic form after ten points from their opening four Bundesliga games. The German giants will be looking to improve on their Quarter-Final exit at the hands of Man City in this competition last season.

Manchester United have been their usual chaotic self this season with just six points from their opening five Premier League matches. However, the antidote to said chaos, might just be their return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2021-22 season.

In this post we break down all the form, betting odds, predicted line-ups and all everything else you need to know ahead of this massive Group A tie.

Bayern Munich vs Man United Preview

Bayern Munich’s Form

My pick for last season’s competition, before coming unstuck to eventual winners Manchester City at the Quarter-Final stage. The eventual Champions League winners beat Bayern 3-0 in the first-leg in Manchester before a 1-1 draw in Munich saw the German side knocked out 4-1 on aggregate.

However, Bayern Munich are entering this new European season in solid domestic form with ten points from their opening four league games. Although they dropped points in their most recent game, drawing 2-2 with Leverkusen following Exequiel Palacios’ 94th-minute penalty equaliser.

This’ll be Thomas Tuchel’s first full season in charge of the club having been appointed back in March from Julian Nagelsmann.

Bayern’s Transfer Market business intrigues me. They brought in CM Konrad Laimer, LB Raphael Guerreiro, CB Kim Min-Jae, and most notably England star Harry Kane for €100m.

There were also notable departures from the club which has seen the playing first-team squad get substantially smaller. The most notable outgoings were Daley Blind, Lucas Hernandez, Benjamin Pavard and Ryan Gravenberch.

Man United’s Form

Manchester United returned to the Champions League this season following their third-place Premier League finish under Erik ten Hag. This meant the club had finished in the top four in three of the past four seasons.

Despite that form, chaos on and off the field is never far away at Old Trafford these days. Just six points in the opening five league games gives a sense of deja vu at the club.

Their recruitment during the summer was strange. On one hand, they brought in Mason Mount, André Onana, Rasmus Højlund and Altay Bayindir who all filled needed holes in the squad along with Sofyan Amrabat on loan. On the other hand, Johnny Evans coming back to the club and Sergio Reguilón on loan (due to a lack of designated outgoings) is a sign of how poorly Man United have been run under The Glazer ownership.

Man United’s last outing came against Brighton on Saturday. The Red Devils had a 31-game unbeaten streak at home going into that game but were thoroughly outclassed on the afternoon by Brighton in a 1-3 loss.

This latest loss along with the off-field chaos has the papers and even some fans questioning ten Hag’s credentials to steer the ship already. That’s despite a largely positive first-season at the helm.

Bayern Munich vs Man United Head-to-Head Results

Since 2014 these two teams have faced off on three occasions with Bayern Munich winning twice and Manchester United winning once.

Bayern Munich won the most recent encounter 1-0 in a friendly in 2018. Before that, they faced off in the Champions League Quarter-Final. The first leg was a 1-1 draw in Old Trafford, but Bayern won the second leg 3-1 to advance to the semi-finals.

Bayern Munich v Man United Prediction & Best Bet

Prediction: Bayern Munich 2-0 Manchester United

Two sides with contrasting form, Bayern based on every metric you can look at should be winning this one, especially with home status.

Manchester United are in constant turmoil, although a victory here could be the season-starting catalyst they require.

Bayern should win this one rather comfortably.

Best Bet: Bayern Munich Win and Under 2.5 Goals @ 4/1
