Lowry has failed to record a victory all year on the PGA Tour despite consistently good form, but boasts strong credentials at the Surrey venue having posted top 20 finishes in eight of his last nine visits.

Now the World Number 23 is closing on the favourites having been backed into 14/1 from 16/1 in the betting with BoyleSports, who are paying each-way customers down to ten places for the event instead of five.

Recent FedEx Cup champion Rory McIlroy is the hot 5/1 favourite to win the DP World Tour’s flagship event as he did back in 2014, with the last two US Open winners Jon Rahm (7/1) and Matt Fitzpatrick (10/1) hot on his trail.
