BoyleSports football ambassador and tipster Natalie Sawyer believes the Reds’ underwhelming start to their domestic campaign makes them big underdogs when they face Napoli in their Champions League Group A opener.

Jurgen Klopp’s side travel to Naples with just two wins from their opening six Premier League matches and face a Napoli side who are just two points off the lead in Serie A after an unbeaten five-match start.

“It’s very hard to pick Liverpool to win this one,” Sawyer told BoyleSports.

“They just haven’t hit their groove yet, whereas Napoli have got off to a solid, unbeaten start in Italy. I can imagine it will be an intimidating atmosphere in Naples and Liverpool have never won there.

“Given that hostile atmosphere and Liverpool’s form at the start of the season, I think Napoli will come away with the win – a draw would be a massive bonus for Liverpool.”

Sawyer however does believe that Liverpool’s sluggish start will soon make way for the form that saw them finish runners-up to Manchester City last season.

“Injuries have been a massive factor so far this season,” she added.

“Especially in midfield – it has lacked spark and creativity. Virgil van Dijk hasn’t been able to build a relationship with his regular partner at the back either and he’s not been at his best.

“Mo Salah, too, he hasn’t hit peak form. So there are issues for Jurgen Klopp to work through, but I expect these players to come good at some stage, because they always do. Their quality will eventually shine through.”
