Bobby Jean Can Be The Curragh Girl

There were plenty of big priced winners around the place yesterday and there’s significant prize money on offer at the Curragh this afternoon but the bet of the day is in the finale and hopefully worth waiting for.

The Curragh Girl
A horrible day around Kildare yesterday wouldn’t have disappointed connections of Bobby Jean as the daughter of Jeremy should relish the conditions at HQ in the last race on Sunday.

The course and distance winner won off a mark of 66 and was 2nd off the same mark on her seasonal debut at Listowel just under a fortnight ago.

The handicapper was clearly impressed with that effort and raised the five-year-old to a mark of 71 and although that means she has to put in a career best performance to win this one-mile contest, she is a filly that looks capable of doing so.

Tom Madden will take off the 5lbs that she was raised for that Listowel effort behind Dew Line and with conditions to suit and just 8st1lbs on her back, hopefully Bobby Jean can oblige at odds of around 6/1.

Classic Combination
The selection in the valuable Joe McGrath Handicap is much more tentative but Sahreej looks a very interesting runner.

Owned by Ryder Cup wildcard Lee Westwood and his agent Chubby Chandler, Sahreej is definitely one to keep an eye on in terms of market moves…

…as a tongue tie and cheek pieces are fitted for the first time.

Bought out of Charlie Hills’ earlier in the year the three-year-old had his first start for new connections at Dundalk in a valuable race earlier in the month and that was an admirable effort. And given that his best effort came on soft ground, that shouldn’t be a worry.

Last year’s winner Tylery Wonder and Tithonus – who beat the selection last time – are both interesting runners but with any positive moves for Sahreej confidence could grow as he emerges from a very shrewd operation.

Recommended Bets
Sahreej 10/1 – 4.30 Curragh
Bobby Jean 6/1 – 5.35 Curragh
