Preview–Bournemouth vs Tottenham

Bournemouth’s Form

Bournemouth had a largely positive season last year, despite sacking Scott Parker (who got them promoted) four games into the season following their 2-0 win against Aston Villa they were demolished in their next three games 4-0 against Manchester City, 0-3 against Arsenal and were humbled 9-0 by Liverpool.

Gary O’Neil came in and steadied the ship at the club guiding them to a fifteenth-place finish.  However, that was seemingly not enough for him to keep his job and he was fired on the 19th of June and was replaced by Andoni Iraola who had been Head Coach at Rayo Vallecano.

In the off-season, the club have not only retained the core of their squad from last season, but they have also recruited excellently with Justin Kluivert, Alex Scott, and Tyler Adams amongst a seven-man contingent coming in who all look like potentially shrewd acquisitions.  Coming into the season they had a hit-and-miss pre-season with three wins, two losses scoring ten goals and conceding six.

They commenced the season with a 1-1 draw against West Ham when Solanke scored a late goal, in their second match of the season they lost out 3-1 to Liverpool. Bournemouth are a very difficult club to gauge but if they don’t pick up points quickly the new man in the dugout could be under pressure already.

Tottenham’s Form

Ange Postecoglou is the new man in the dugout following his appointment as manager on the 6th of June 2023 on a four-year contract, following considerable success with Celtic winning five trophies in two seasons with the club.

Tottenham had an interesting window losing first-teamers Lucas Moura, Harry Winks and their talismanic Captain Harry Kane who signed for Bayern Munich for £100,000,000 and it remains to be seen how Tottenham will fare for goals this season in his absence. However, they’ve made some shrewd additions with the likes of James Maddison, M. van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario all look like key first-team signings already.

Pre-Season was a mixed bag for the club with two defeats, 2-3 against West Ham and 4-2 against Barcelona along with two victories 1-5 against Lion City Sailors and 5-1 against Shakhtar Donetsk. A considerable point of interest could be the fact in those wins Kane scored 1 and 4 goals respectfully.

In their opening Premier League game of the season, they drew   2-2 against Brentford despite having 70% of possession they could only create an XG of 1.27 to Brentford’s 2.22. They build on that with an impressive 2-0 victory over Manchester United despite again losing the XG battle this time 1.7 to United’s 2.1.

Bournemouth vs Tottenham Prediction

Prediction: Bournemouth 1-2 Tottenham

This’ll be an interesting match-up, a lot was expected of Bournemouth this season with some of their acquisitions made and even though there won’t be cause for panic just yet. They will need to pick up a win or two sooner rather than later or the man in the dugout will be in trouble.

Tottenham have lost the XG battle in their first two games of the season and still picked up four points, could this be a sign of a new solid steel under Ange? Time will tell but I think they win this one anyway, and maybe even the XG battle.

Best Bet:   Dominic Solanke  First Goalscorer 15/2
