Brentford’s Form

Brentford were strong last season with their 59-point total good enough for 9th in the table. It was also only three points behind Brighton who finished in the final Europa League spot in sixth. Coming into this season many speculated as to whether this success could be maintained or if it was just a flash in the pan.

During the summer transfer window, Brentford conducted their business in typical Brentford fashion. They bought shrewdly with the majority of signings initially brought in for their B-Team and youth sides.

Their biggest acquisitions were keeper Flekken from Freiburg for £11m, striker Schade for £22m and Irish defender Collins from Wolves costing £23m. Interestingly, Maupay came in on loan too from their opponents in this game. Keeper David Raya was the only departure of note who went to Arsenal on loan.

The Bees have been tough to beat in the league this season opening the season although they have struggled to win too. Thomas Frank’s side have 1 win, 3 draws and 1 loss through five league games.

Last weekend was their first defeat of the season, 1-0 away to Newcastle.

Everton’s Form

Everton had a very poor 22/23 season, following the sacking of Frank Lampard back in January. Sean Dyche came in with the team in the relegation zone and did just enough to keep them up.

The blue side of Merseyside would’ve been hoping for a more positive season in this campaign but the off-season has proved difficult. Despite losing very few major first-team squad members, they’ve only brought in three names during the summer. Ashley Young came on a free transfer from Aston Villa, forward Youssef Chermiti came from Sporting for £12.9m and most recently forward Beto came in from Udinese today for £26m.

Their pre-season was surprisingly positive with four wins and one draw. However, this hasn’t translated into the league this season as they lost 0-1 to Fulham, 4-0 to Aston Villa and 0-1 against Wolves in their first three league games.

Since then Everton’s results have looked slightly more positive with a 2-2 draw against Sheffield United followed by a narrow 0-1 defeat to Arsenal.
