Power, who rode Sizing John to victory in the Cheltenham blue riband in 2017, included the defending champion in his tips for the final day at the Festival when talking to Leon Blanche of BoyleSports. Watch below!

3.30 Cheltenham Gold Cup

“I wouldn’t swap Minella Indo for anyone,” said Power. “He was really good here last year when he beat A Plus Tard, although I have huge respect for Galvin who I’ve won on before around Cheltenham.

“He’s a very good horse, Gordon Elliott has him in fantastic form this season and he was a very good winner over 3 miles at Leopardstown at Christmas when he also beat A Plus Tard.

“If the race isn’t that strongly run, A Plus Tard is a big danger and he’s probably the quickest horse in the race. Don’t rule Al Boum Photo out – he’s a dual winner and even though he’s getting a bit older, he’s going to be in the mix again.

“But horses for courses they say and if things go right, I think Minella Indo has a massive chance.”

1.30 Triumph Hurdle

“It’s a cracking renewal and I was blown away by Pied Piper over course and distance earlier this season, it was a hell of a performance. He is opposing Vauban again who he beat on their first start together this season at Punchestown.

“Vauban hung badly to the right going left-handed round Leopardstown when he beat Fil Dor and for me the safest one is Pied Piper.

“I wouldn’t rule Fil Dor out either because this track is all about stamina and he has it in abundance. If the rain keeps falling that will play to Fil Dor’s strengths and he is a danger.”

2.50 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle

“Ginto has everything – he’s a Grade 1 winner over 2½, the step up to 3 miles is definitely going to play to his strengths and I think he’s one of the Irish bankers of the week.

“Hillcrest is a danger, but he just might not have the class that Ginto has and I’ll be disappointed if he gets beaten.”
