Cheltenham Top Jockey Favourites

Paul Townend – Cheltenham Top Jockey Favourite

The favourite to land the Top Jockey prize at Cheltenham is Paul Townend at 4/11 per the latest horse racing betting odds at BoyleSports. Those odds imply that Paul Townend has a 73.3% chance of landing the most successes of all jockeys at Cheltenham.

Since the retirement of Ruby Walsh in 2019, Paul has become the number one jockey for Willie Mullins who is a 10-time leading trainer winner at the event. He’s been Top Jockey at the event 3 of the last 6 years. Those wins came in 2020 with (5), 2022 with (5) and last year again with (5) winners.

Paul Townend gets the choice of an abundance of top-class performers from the yard of Willie Mullins including the likes of Gold Cup favourite Galopins Des Champs and Champion Chase favourite El Fabiolo.

With a team like that to choose from he’s a very worthy favourite to be the top jockey for a 3rd consecutive year.

Jack Kennedy

The 2nd favourite to land the Top Jockey prize at Cheltenham is Jack Kennedy at odds of 11/2 per the latest Cheltenham Festival odds at BoyleSports. Those odds suggest that he has a 15.4% chance of landing the most successes of all jockeys at Cheltenham.

Jack Kennedy missed last year’s Cheltenham Festival after he suffered a leg break in Leopardstown in early January.

However, with the jockey fit and raring to go this time around he is in contention to be the top jockey at the Festival. Kennedy is the leading jockey for 2-time Leading trainer Gordon Elliott (2018, 2017), he should get the pick of his trained runners to ride during this year’s Cheltenham Festival.

Nico de Boinville

The joint 3rd favourite to land the Top Jockey prize at Cheltenham is Nico de Boinville at odds of 10/1 per the latest horse racing odds at BoyleSports. Those odds suggest that he has a 9.1% chance of landing the most successes of all jockeys at Cheltenham.

Nico is the number one rider for the Nicky Henderson stable. Henderson is a 3-time winner of the Trainers Title with his successes coming in 2012, 2010 and 2000.

De Boinville won the Cheltenham top rider award in 2019 with three winners: Altior (Queen Mother Champion Chase), Pentland Hills (Triumph Hurdle) and William Henry (Coral Cup) but will likely need a bigger total to land the prize in 2024.

With the pick of Nicky Henderson’s to choose from, including Constitution Hill, he is not without a chance of landing the top jockey prize again.

Mark Walsh

The other joint 3rd favourite to land the Top Jockey prize at Cheltenham is Mark Walsh at odds of 10/1 per the latest Cheltenham odds at BoyleSports. Those odds suggest that he has a 9.1% chance of landing the most successes of all jockeys at Cheltenham.

Another contender for the top jockey prize at Cheltenham is Mark Walsh who frequently rides for owner JP McManus which gives him a more than decent chance in any race he gets at the Cheltenham Festival.

Mark overcame injury to make Cheltenham last year riding Sire Du Berlais to success in the Stayers Hurdle at 33/1. With a bit of luck, he could be primed for a big festival in 2024.

Rachael Blackmore

The 5th favourite to land the Top Jockey prize at Cheltenham is Rachael Blackmore at odds of 14/1 per the latest horse racing betting odds at BoyleSports. Those odds suggest that he has a 6.7% chance of landing the most successes of all jockeys at Cheltenham.

The Tipperary rider was the Top Jockey in 2021 after riding home 6 winners including Honeysuckle in the Champion Hurdle. Blackmore has credited much of her success with trainer Henry de Bromhead for appointing her as head jockey.

Blackmore now has 14 festival victories in Cheltenham under her belt following victories last year in the Mares Hurdle with Honeysuckle and Envoi Allen in the Ryanair Chase. Rule her out of featuring prominently at your peril.

Danny Mullins

Further out in the betting to land the Top Jockey prize at Cheltenham in 2024 is Danny Mullins at odds of 20/1 per the latest Cheltenham betting at BoyleSports. Those odds suggest that he has a 4.8% chance of landing the most successes of all jockeys at Cheltenham.

While not the number 1 jockey for his uncle Willie Mullins (that of course being Paul Townend), the Mullins have such a strong team of runners that very few would decline the chance to get second choice of the team!

Danny Mullins is in form too with a hat-trick of wins landed at the Dublin Racing Festival in February on Day 1 including a victory in the Irish Arkle on Il Etait Temps.
