Dwight Yorke: Mason Mount Needs To Show He’s Worth The Money

Mason Mount needs to go out and show Man United that he’s worth the money spent on him, that is according to one Man United legend.

That former Man United player in question is none other than Dwight Yorke who was a crucial part of the club’s famous treble winning squad.

We recently got the chance to chat with Yorke about all things Man United and he gave us some fascinating takes on recent signings like Mount and other options the club can explore in this transfer market to solidify the midfield.

Man United’s Signing Of Mason Mount

Q. Mount is now officially being announced as a Man United signing, would you say he’s an underrated or overrated signing for £60m?

Mason Mount is a big signing for Man United but he needs to show why he’s worth the money…

on the platform he’s been given. It’s a new club, he should have that burning desire to prove to people that he is a good player.

He’s a damn good player. I don’t often praise the usual English player because sometimes they are overrated, but Mount really can play. He has something about him that I like, but now it’s up to the coach and the system to get the best out of Mount.

I do think Erik ten Hag can help him tap into his full potential.

Liverpool’s Decision Not To Pursue Mount Transfer

Q. Do you think Liverpool should have gone in for Mount? Did they need him more than Man United?

I’m glad Liverpool didn’t go in for Mason Mount, it made it a lot easier for Man United to sign him. Otherwise, there would have been this big transfer saga, chasing up the player with different options.

Man United showed Mount we wanted him and I think that was good authority from Erik ten Hag and the club.

Caicedo Would Give Energy To Man United Midfield

Q. Chelsea have been trying to sign Moises Caicedo for a while now and it looks like Man United are trying to hijack the deal. Do you back United to get him, even for a reported £80m?

Price tags are ridiculous in football now, it is what it is, but…

Moises Caicedo is a damn good player and had a great season for Brighton.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Man United sign him because he plays in a position that we need more depth in.

You see the change in quality when Casemiro comes out of the team due to suspension or injury, we don’t look the same. Caicedo would give that energy in the midfield, he’s very functional in the directness of his play and he’s also aggressive and a great tackler. I’m not surprised to see Chelsea are in for him too.

Partey A Potential Option For Man United

Q. Thomas Partey is apparently on his way out of Arsenal to make way for Declan Rice, is this a great opportunity for Man United to get him? Especially since Casemiro can be suspended a lot and is an upgrade on McTominay and Fred?

Thomas Partey wouldn’t be a bad signing for Man United. But it depends on whether Mikel Arteta changes his formation to 4-2-3-1 where he has two defensive midfielders where both Declan Rice and Partey can play together.

Having a player like Partey makes Man United or Arsenal more adaptable because they can play different positions with his qualities. The whole point in a tactical approach is that we don’t know what the opposing manager has planned before the game or season, so Arteta might figure a way out to play both Rice and Partey.

The competition is healthy for the squad, you need players competing with each other every day in training and it builds a hunger in the team.
