Dwight Yorke: De Gea Departure A Mistake From Man United

David De Gea looks set to leave Man United and this could be a big mistake in the eyes of one former Man United star.

Here at BoyleSports we got the chance to sit down with Dwight Yorke and chat about all things Man United and further afield.

Yorke gave a serious warning to Man United to reconsider their stance on David De Gea. Find out why below.

Man United Should Be Careful What They Wish For With De Gea Replacement

Q. There’s all this talk about David de Gea and the club pulling out of an agreement with him. Do you think it’s disrespectful to De Gea or do Man United have the right to pull out an agreement?

The David de Gea situation is a bit disrespectful from Man United but they also have the right to do it. You never want to end your long career at such a big club, in turmoil. I understand how these football clubs work, but I also sympathise with the player. Man United have to be careful what they wish for. You don’t win the Golden Glove if you’re not a good goalkeeper.

I know he’s made mistakes and some of them at crucial times, but who doesn’t do that? I don’t think the goalkeepers that Man United want are anywhere near as good as De Gea, so they need to be careful what they wish for. Dean Henderson might be given a chance while De Gea is still there, but changing a keeper could come back to bite Man United.

It’s a bigger risk to bring in any of the goalkeepers Man United are looking at than to stick with De Gea. Outside of Thibaut Courtois and a couple of others, there are no proper world-class goalkeepers and even they can make mistakes.

Mount Deal Better Than Rice Deal

Q. Arsenal look like they have Declan Rice signed if they can figure out a payment structure with West Ham, for £105m, is it too much money? Were Man City right to back out?

There’s a clear reason why Man City backed out of the Declan Rice signing, they don’t think he’s worth £105m. But that’s the nature of business in football nowadays, it’s a billion-pound industry. If Arsenal’s owners have deep pockets and are willing to spend that money, then let them.

West Ham’s valuation of Rice probably comes from Enzo Fernandez’s price, plus he’s English so that adds on a few million. I understand why Rice is built up the way he is, he’s an English international and he does really good things in the game but £105m is a lot of money.

Mason Mount for £60m is 100% a better deal than Rice for £105m. Mount will score more goals, obviously, they’re different positions so it’s harder to compare, but Mount is as talented as anyone else.

Man City’s Pursuit Of Josko Gvardiol In Record Transfer

Q. Man City are looking to buy Josko Gvadriol for a record £86m for a centre back. Do think he’ll flourish under Pep or could he be another big money flop like Harry Maguire?

If Pep Guardiola is after Josko Gvardiol and is willing to pay that much money, then he’s a damn good player. You don’t become the best manager without being able to identify the best players.

Anyone going into that Man City team after winning the treble will be coming to a very happy place. I know because I witnessed it at Man United when we won the treble.

A treble will maybe happen every two decades, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Guardiola is loving being at Man City at the moment, which in turn would persuade players to join the club as they’ll know Guardiola will be there for a long time.

Aston Villa A ‘Great Destination’ For Harry Maguire

Q. Speaking of Maguire, Aston Villa have been linked with him. Would he be good at Villa or is he not good enough for a European level club?

Harry Maguire has been at Man United for four years now, he’s clearly talented and is still one of England’s number one defenders. If he doesn’t match the philosophy of Erik ten Hag, then there’s nothing he can do but leave the club.

Aston Villa would be a great destination for Maguire, they’re ambitious and want to break into the top six. Unai Emery has done a fantastic job, they have a great stadium and an amazing fanbase.

Villa are looking to bring in established players to break into the European spots consistently and Maguire is one of those established players. It’s a fresh start for Maguire, he can get out of the limelight and blossom again, there are not many better destinations for him to return to his best than Aston Villa.
