England Rugby World Cup Odds & Path To The Final

In this post we take a look at the England Rugby World Cup odds along with a look at their path to the Rugby World Cup Final.

England Rugby World Cup Odds

England are 14/1 to win the 2023 Rugby World Cup ahead of their Semi-Final against South Africa. That makes them the third most likely side to win the tournament of the four remaining teams.

Pre-tournament England had been given odds of 12/1 to win the 2023 Rugby World Cup which made them joint fifth-favourites along with Australia.

Despite making it to the Semi-Final, and being the only unbeaten team left in the competition, they have drifted out to 14/1 in the betting market to win the 2023 Rugby World Cup. That improbable odds drift is due to shaky performances against Samoa in their final round pool game and then Fiji in the Quarter-Finals.

England 34-12 Japan

England 71-0 Chile

England 18-17 Samoa

Quarter-Finals

England, as winners of Pool D, were drawn against Pool C runners-up Fiji in the Quarter-Finals. The English were strong 1/3 favourites going into that game as the expectation was that they should comfortably beat the Fijians, who were making their first Quarter-Final appearance since 2007.

In the end, it turned out to be another shaky performance from England although they held on for a 30-24 win which secured a spot in the Semi-Final.

While England have benefited from landing on the easier side of the draw we have to give them some level of credit for taking care of business and booking their spot in a Semi-Final. You can only beat the teams that are in front of you as the saying goes.

Semi-Finals

After England’s Quarter-Final victory over Fiji they had to wait and see who won the Quarter-Final between France and South Africa to find out who they would play in the Semi-Final.

Tournament hosts France were the narrow favourites going into that game but after a classic encounter it was South Africa who would prevail 29-28. That meant that England will play South Africa in the 2023 Rugby World Cup Semi-Finals.

This will be a rematch of the 2019 Rugby World Cup Final when South Africa beat England 32-12 to secure a third Rugby World Cup. Steve Borthwick’s side will be aiming to avenge that defeat this Saturday night.

If they are to do so then they will need to pull off an upset as England are the 7/2 underdogs to advance to the final from this Semi-Final.

Who could England play in the Rugby World Cup Final?

England will play either Argentina or New Zealand in the 2023 Rugby World Cup Final if they manage to beat South Africa in the Semi-Final.

It is far more likely that New Zealand would be their final opponents given that the All Blacks are 1/16 to advance from the other Semi-Final.

Fellow Pool D side Argentina would be the preferred matchup from an English point of view. In England’s opening game of this World Cup they beat Los Pumas 27-10 despite being down to 14 men for the majority of the game following an early red card.

If you fancy England to win this Rugby World Cup (or you’re just an English fan) an interesting bet to consider is England beating New Zealand in the straight forecast market at 18/1. It represents better value than the 14/1 in the outright market when you consider that New Zealand are 1/16 to make it to the final.
