Euro 2024 Qualifiers – Group A Preview

Spain

This will be Luis de la Fuente’s first campaign as Spanish manager following being appointed as head coach on the 8th of December following Spain’s disappointing round-of-16 elimination to Morocco on penalties at the World Cup.

Spain who are currently ranked seventh in the world will enter this group as comfortable favourites to qualify. One point of note is that de la Fuentes has managed Spain at U19, U21 and U23 levels.

Due to de la Fuente’s experience with the Spanish youth system you can expect him to incorporate young stars like Gavi (18), Pedri (20) and Fati (20) into a new-looking Spanish spine. Spain go into these qualifiers at 7/1 in the Euro 2024 outright betting which makes them fourth favourites to claim the trophy.

Scotland

Second seeds in group A are the Scots who will be hoping they can make it two Euro qualifications in a row and qualify for their fourth European Championship ever. This is a feat which they achieved previously by qualifying for the 1992 and again the 1996 tournament along with the 2020 tournament.

During their most recent Nations League Campaign Scotland topped their League B group with Ukraine, Ireland and Armenia with a record four wins, one draw and one defeat from their six matches to gain promotion to League A for the next campaign.

Steve Clarke’s (who has managed them since 2019) Scotland are certainly no sludges with Premier League stars like Andy Robertson, Scott McTominay and Kieran Tierney to choose from. Scotland are massive outsiders in the outright betting market for this tournament at odds of 200/1.

Norway

Third seed Norway have surprisingly made one previous appearance at the European Championships and that was back in 2000. However, Norway is another side that arguably has a “golden generation” on its hands. In 2022 from ten matches, they had six wins, two draws and only two defeats.

World-Class Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is the man who gets all the plaudits and media attention and with good reason. He has a phenomenal record of 21 goals in 23 games for Norway. But his supporting class are not too shabby either which includes the likes of Ødegaard, Sorloth and Berge to choose from.

Norway can be had at 66/1 to claim Euro 2024 glory which could be an interesting bet with the likes of Haaland and Ødegaard in their ranks.

Georgia

Fourth seed Georgia has never qualified for an International tournament since its Independence from the Soviet Union. Despite this and their status as outsiders in the group, they were in good form in 2022 winning six, drawing two and only having one defeat in their nine matches demonstrating that they are no pushover.

Former French international Willy Sagnol has been their coach since 2021 and expects Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (22) to be critical to their prospects after already scoring ten goals in just nineteen appearances for his country.

Georgia have been given little chance by our odds makers at odds of 750/1 to win the Euros.

Cyprus

The Fifth seed in this group and a team which will be under no expectations to qualify from this group which could allow them to play without fear and cause a few shocks. Cyprus has had some decent results in 2022 including last time out beating Israel 3-2 away from home along with a one-nil home victory vs Greece.

Former Newcastle player Temur Ketsbaia is new to the job with two wins and two defeats in his first four games in charge. Could Cyprus shock a few? Unlikely but anything can happen. Ireland knows that all too well.
