FA Cup 2023/24 Betting Favourites
Manchester City – FA Cup Favourite
Man City, unsurprisingly, are favourites to retain the FA Cup at odds of 3/1 and continue their dominance over English Football. It would take a foolish person to count them out from claiming their third FA Cup title in six seasons.
FA Cup 22/23 Campaign
The club were imperious during their FA Cup campaign last season which was as close to perfect as you are likely to see. City scored nineteen goals and only conceded once in their six matches in the competition.
Their run to the 22/23 FA Cup title was as follows:
Third Round – Man City 4-0 Chelsea
Fourth Round – Man City 1-0 Arsenal
Fifth Round – Bristol City 0-3 Man City
Quarter-Final- Man City 6-0 Burnley
Semi-Final- Man City 3-0 Sheffield United
Final – Man City 2-1 Manchester United
Man City’s FA Cup 2023/24 Chances
They may have lost Gundogan on a free transfer to Barcelona, but he was aptly replaced with their signing of Kovačić from Chelsea. And with the likes of De Bruyne, Haaland and co remaining they will obviously be major players again.
If Man City do go on to win the 2023/24 FA Cup it will be their 8th FA Cup title, drawing them level with Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham.
Liverpool
There are three co-second favourites for the 2023/24 FA Cup ahead of the start of the season. Liverpool are the first of those at odds of 8/1.
FA Cup 22/23 Campaign
The Reds had a disappointing campaign last season; they entered the season as EFL Cup and FA Cup champions but were disappointingly dumped out of the FA Cup by Brighton at the Fourth-round stage 2-1. Their run was as follows:
Third Round – Liverpool 2-2 Wolves
Third Round Replay –Wolves 0-1 Liverpool
Fourth Round – Brighton – 2-1 Liverpool
Liverpool’s FA Cup 2023/24 Chances
With the additions of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai Liverpool will be expected to be a lot stronger and refreshed this season. As a result you can expect them to go deeper in the competition this season.
If they were to win the FA Cup it would be their second in three seasons and they would go clear of Chelsea and Tottenham with nine FA Cups to their name. That would leave them only trailing Manchester United (12) and Arsenal (14) for most FA Cup victories.
Manchester United
Another co-second favourite in the betting to win the 2023/24 FA Cup is Man United also at odds of 8/1.
Erik ten Hag had a positive first season as Manchester United manager returning the club to the Champions League with a third-place Premier League finish, won them a trophy with the EFL Cup.
FA Cup 22/23 Campaign
Last season could’ve been even better with two domestic cups had they not lost to Man City 2-1 in the FA Cup Final. Their run was as follows:
Third Round – Man United 3-1 Everton
Fourth Round – Man United 3-1 Reading
Fifth Round – Man United 3-1 West Ham
Quarter-Final- Man United 3-1 Fulham
Semi-Final- Man United 0-0 Brighton AET (7-6p)
Final – Man City 2-1 Manchester United
Man United’s FA Cup 2023/24 Chances
Manchester United are expected to be even stronger next season following the additions of midfielder Mason Mount, goalkeeper Andre Onana and striker Rasmus Højlund.
What remains to be seen is whether they will strengthen enough in relation to the other teams and whether Manchester City regress. A victory would take them to 13 FA Cup titles which would put them just one behind Arsenal.
Arsenal
The final co-second favourite at odds of 8/1 for the 2023/24 FA Cup is Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta deserves plaudits for the job he has done since becoming Arsenal job back in 2019 bringing the side from a fifth finish in 21/22 to a second-place finish and a title challenge for much of the 22/23 season. However, they could be criticised for abandoning their campaigns in the other competitions.
FA Cup 22/23 Campaign
Their FA Cup run was as follows:
Third Round – Oxford United 0-3 Man City
Fourth Round – Man City – 1-0 Arsenal
Arsenal’s FA Cup 2023/24 Chances
Arsenal seemingly hell-bent on bringing on their side further this season having gone big with their recruitment. The Gunners spend roughly £208.6 million (excluding undisclosed figures) on Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice.
If they win the FA Cup this season they will go further clear of Manchester United’s 12 titles with what would be their 15th success in the competition.
Chelsea
Next up in the FA Cup betting odds is Chelsea at odds of 9/1. That puts them just behind Liverpool, Man United and Arsenal.
Chelsea had a horrible 22/23 season to say the least. The London club finished 12th which was their first time finishing in the bottom half of the table since the 95/96 season. They were managed by Glenn Hoddle back then and it’s no surprise that they finished so low given that they went through four managers in the season.
FA Cup 22/23 Campaign
Their FA Cup run was as follows:
Third Round – Man City 4-0 Chelsea
Chelsea’s FA Cup 2023/24 Chances
Chelsea has spent over £642 million on football talent in the last 12 months and with that spending seeing no sign of stopping, such is the volume of money being spent that it seems almost impossible that a winning side can’t be put together eventually.
With Mauricio Pochettino now at the helm they may have the right man in charge to reverse their fortunes. One thing is for sure, they cannot be any worse next season surely?
If they were to win the FA Cup it would be their first victory in the competition since 2017/18. It would also take them clear of Liverpool and Tottenham with nine FA Cups to their name only trailing Manchester United (12) and Arsenal (14).
Newcastle
At 10/1 in the betting to win the 2023/24 FA Cup is Newcastle United.
Newcastle are on an upward trajectory. Eddie Howe has done an excellent job thus far leading them from an 11th-place finish last season to qualifying for next season’s Champions League after a 4th place finish in the league last season.
FA Cup 22/23 Campaign
Their FA Cup run was as follows:
Third Round – Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 Newcastle
Newcastle’s 2023/24 FA Cup Chances
Despite their disappointment in the FA Cup last season, along with the added strain of having Champions League football, the next step in the Newcastle trajectory will be to win a trophy. They came closest last season in the EFL Cup where they lost in the final to Manchester United. I think they could be the shock contenders to Man City this season.
Additions of harvey Barnes and Sandro Tonali seem shrewd, and I’d expect them to be much stronger in the competition this season.
If they were to win the FA Cup it would be their first title in the competition since the 1954-55 season. It would also put them on seven successes in the competition, level with Manchester City and Aston Villa.
The other big domestic competition in England is of course the Premier League and we previewed the chances of all the top teams in our 2023/24 Premier League Odds post.
