The Favourite Is The Favourite For BAFTA Glory

BAFTA Awards

Best Actress

The BAFTAs are over a week away but the betting has already been thrown into upheaval as punters rushed to get behind their award worthy stars and films.

There is a new frontrunner for Best Film as the aptly named The Favourite is now living up to its moniker after a surge of bets saw its odds slashed from a relative outsider at 5/1 to a force to be reckoned with as the new 5/4 market leader.

Roma was the 20/21 early favourite to nab the award for best film but has since drifted out to 13/8, leaving it locked in a two-horse race with the period comedy-drama.

Despite losing out to Glenn Close for the SAG for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, Olivia Colman has shortened further as the BAFTA Best Actress favourite. Colman portrays Queen Anne in The Favourite and was initially made the 10/11 favourite, however, large bets resulted in her odds being cut into a red-hot 1/4 ahead of the award ceremony.

Glenn Close, nominated for her role in The Wife, is now an 11/4 shot for a clean sweep of awards having drifted from 6/5.
Rami Malek remains poised for Best Actor in spite of his odds easing out to 8/11 from 8/15 with Alfonso Cuaron appearing unstoppable in the Best Director category after shortening into 1/8 from 1/6.
