Glorious Goodwood 2018 Day 5 Betting Tips – Niall Cronin

Glorious Goodwood draws to a close with one of the toughest races of the week to unravel – the prestigious Stewards Cup.

Fahey Has A Big Bite
Obviously dangerously vulnerable to some younger and up and coming handicappers in this type of grade, Growl is given the nod to win the Stewards Cup for Richard Fahey, Paul Hanagan and Dr Marwan Koukash.

The six-year-old has had a couple of tries in this race before and finished fourth twice and it would be a very creditable effort if he finished there again this year but it could well be a case of third time lucky for Growl.

There is a chance that there was a bit more depth to the previous renewals than there is to this and Growl has dropped down the ratings since going down by just a length to Lancelot Du Lac last year.

Growl is back off a rating of 99, which he ran off here two years ago and there was just signs, on ground softer than ideal, that he could well be competitive in a race like this when he ran last time out. He was faced with an impossible task on his debut but it was a good run and Fahey will be hoping to finish the week off with a winner after being reasonably quiet by his high standards this week.

It’s a wide open race but Growl just looked tough enough and experienced enough to run well at odds of 12/1.

Moore In The Bar
The consolation race for the Stewards Cup starts the day at Goodwood and Boy In The Bar looked one that could get Ryan Moore off to a winning start for the day.

A winner over the course and distance last year, Ian Williams has swooped for Moore to take over on the seven-year-old for the first time and that is a significant boost for backers.

A more modest victory on the all weather at the end of last year was Boy In The Bar’s most recent success but this looks a wide open race and the selection is down to a mark two pounds lower than the career high of 86 which he has won off and he ticks a lot of boxes here with quick ground being another positive.
