Gordon Elliott Looking For 3rd Galway Plate Win With Mengli Khan

It has been eight months since Mengli Khan has won a race, but he heads the market for the Galway Plate betting at 9/1.

His trainer Gordon Elliott is aiming for a third success in the race with Clarcam and Mark Enright landing the spoils last year in a shock result at 33/1.

This year will be the 150th running of this prestigious race and it takes place on the Wednesday of the festival week with a late evening start which helps create such a fantastic buzz around the Galway venue on the lead up to the Plate.

Mengli Khan showed some nice form when third in the JLT Novices Chase followed up by another good effort when third to Kalashnikov in the Novices Chase at Aintree a few weeks later.

There are plenty of top-class entries in the Galway Plate with the likes of Heron Heights (10/1), Borice and Azzuri (12/1), Coney Island (12/1) and Ravenhill (14/1).

Young trainer Joseph O’Brien has ridden plenty of winners, but he is now training plenty of them too as he trains the Galway Hurdle ante post favourite, Band Of Outlaws at 6/1.

Joseph won this race in 2017 with Tigris River and also has Gardens Of Babylon entered with BoyleSports pricing the Punchestown Novice Hurdle winner and Triumph Hurdle third at 10/1.

Willie Mullins has had an unbelievable year winning his first Cheltenham Gold Cup and BoyleSports Irish Grand National and he heads to Galway next weeks with a huge string of entries. Quick Grabim is the 7/1 second favourite in the Galway Hurdle along with his stablemate Riven Light who won here during the 2018 festival.
