Honeysuckle Backed For Champion Hurdle Hat-Trick In 2023

The famous roar was back as the Cheltenham Festival got under way on Tuesday afternoon, but there was very little for bookmakers to shout until later in the day as punters got the better of the early sparring.

Great Start For Punters

Punters couldn’t have got off to a better start after Constitution Hill (9/4jf) and Edwardstone (5/2f) bolted up after being well backed for the home contingent in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and The Arkle respectively.

The Irish had to wait until the Champion Hurdle to get off the mark, but Honeysuckle’s heroic 15th victory from 15 races compounded a worrying start for the bookies when defending her crown by 3½ lengths having gone off a hot 8/11 favourite.

We have already cut the super mare into 7/4 from 7/2 to complete a hat-trick in the 2023 Champion Hurdle,

…while Supreme winner Constitution Hill has also been backed into 2/1 after being handed an introductory quote of 7/2.

Gaelic Warrior went off a very popular 13/8 favourite for Willie Mullins in the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle.

But, a short head was enough to swing the pendulum back in favour of the bookmakers as Brazil landed the spoils.

Stattler then handed Mullins his first win of the Festival when comfortably seeing off 15/8 favourite Run Wild Fred in the last.

Honeysuckle The Hero

It was a to-and-fro opening day for us with some popular favourites going in early on including Honeysuckle, who it’s safe to say was the darling of punters yet again.

We’re bracing ourselves for a tough battle with short-priced favourites like Sir Gerhard, Shishkin and Tiger Roll threatening to cause a bit of carnage.

Although, results on Tuesday give us a narrow advantage heading into day two.
