Pool B

Ireland topped Pool B at this Rugby World Cup with a perfect record of four victories from four matches played. This meant they finished first place with 19 points, 4 ahead of second placed South Africa.

Quarter-Finals

Ireland, as winners of Pool B, were drawn against New Zealand in the Quarter-Final, the runners-up in Pool A.

Ireland will play New Zealand in that Quarter-Final on Saturday in the Stade De France at 8 pm in what sets up to be a mouth-watering clash between two of the best teams in the world.

The stakes are huge for Ireland with the chance to reach a Rugby World Cup Semi-Final for the first time in the country’s history. As a result, a win against the All Blacks in this Quarter-Final would be the biggest win in Irish rugby history.

The Irish are favourites to beat New Zealand at odds of 8/13 to advance to the Semi-Final. New Zealand are in the unusual position of being underdogs at 13/10 to advance to the next round.

Who could Ireland play in the RWC Semi-Final?

The winner of Ireland vs New Zealand will play the winner of Quarter-Final 1, between Wales and Argentina, in the Semi-Final.

Wales enter into that match-up unbeaten in the tournament so far, however, their performances before and during the tournament suggest that record could be rather misleading with them fortunate to draw an out-of-form Australia in their Pool.

Plenty predicted Argentina could win Pool D ahead of England. However, England beat the Argentines comfortably in their opening round fixture which put the English in pole position to top the pool.

Following that defeat against England in the opening round Argentina recovered well to pip Japan to the Quarter-Final place by beating the Japanese in the final round of pool fixtures. There could be a lot more to come from The Pumas.

I’d fancy Argentina to overcome the Welsh in that quarter-final but according to the latest betting odds a Wales win is most likely. That makes Wales the team Ireland is most likely to play if they make it to the Semi-Final.

Who could Ireland play in the Rugby World Cup Final?

Ireland could play one of France, South Africa, England or Fiji in the 2023 Rugby World Cup Final.

If Ireland make it to the Rugby World Cup Final they are most likely to play France according to our oddsmakers. The odds of an Ireland v France final is 3/1.

The second most likely opponent for Ireland if they are to make it to the final is South Africa. The odds of a South Africa v Ireland final are 4/1.

The next most likely opposition for Ireland if they are to make it to the Rugby World Cup Final is England. You can back an Ireland v England final at odds of 9/1. That would be a final that would certainly make for a fascinating story.

The team that Ireland are least likely to play if they make it to the World Cup final is Fiji. Our oddsmakers rate Ireland v Fiji as a 33/1 chance which makes them by far Ireland’s least likely World Cup Final opponents.

The winner of the Quarter-Final between France and South Africa will likely go all the way to the Rugby World Cup Final (potentially even winning it) and if I was to predict, I’d go with the French to make the Final, but it will be tight.
