Ireland’s Cillian Murphy Tipped To Be Next James Bond

Cillian Murphy has won acclaim for his performance as lead actor in blockbuster Oppenheimer and is now being tipped to be the next James Bond.

The Co. Cork native has long been one of Ireland’s best exports on the silver screen having starred in movies like Batman Begins, Inception and now Oppenheimer. So it should come as no surprise that Murphy is not being shortlisted as one of the leading candidates for another big role.

Cillian Murphy Among Betting Favourites To Be Next James Bond

The Irish actor has shot to the top of the bookies list to replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond. BoyleSports was forced to slash his odds from 14/1 into 5/1 over the weekend as 007 fans started to show their support for the Cork man. 

The move comes as praise continues to be heaped on the Irish actor for his impressive performance in Christopher Nolan’s epic biopic Oppenheimer. So stunning is his portrayal as ‘the father of the atomic bomb’ that Murphy is also being tipped at 6/1 with BoyleSports to pick up his first Oscar at next year’s Academy Awards.

If Murphy were to land the James Bond role he would become the second ever Irishman to be cast as 007. The first was Irish actor Pierce Brosnan who hails from Navan in Co. Meath.

Brosnan appeared on screen as James Bond for a total of four movies from 1995-2002. Those movies were GoldenEye (1995), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999) and Die Another Day (2002).

Next James Bond Betting Favourites

Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson remains the frontrunner at 9/4 to don the famous tuxedo. Meanwhile Superman star Henry Cavill is close behind in the betting at odds of 5/2 which makes him the second favourite to land one of the most iconic roles in cinema.

Next up in the betting is another British actor in the form of Paapa Essiedu at odds of 3/1. Essiedu might not be an overly familiar name to some but his acting talents cannot be questioned as he has received both BAFTA and Primetime Emmy nominations for his performances in the TV miniseries I May Destroy You.

Happy Valley star James Norton at odds of 7/2 is also in the running and is the only other name ahead of Cillian Murphy in the Next James Bond betting market.
