Goodwood Cup Betting Favourites

Courage Mon Ami – 5/2

The joint favourite for the Goodwood Cup is the John & Thady Gosden trained four-year-old the unbeaten  Courage Mon Ami who won the Gold Cup last time out in Ascot beating Coltrane by 3/4 of a length to land Frankie Dettori his first success in the race ever.

Following his success in the Gold Cup his owner Oppenheimer was buoyant “I’m so happy” Courage Mon Ami looks well placed to challenge again on Tuesday for the top prize and make it five wins from five runs on track.

Gregory – 5/2

The joint favourite for the Goodwood Cup remarkably is another trained by John & Thady Gosden and a stablemate of Courage Mon Ami this time the three-year-old Gregory who has three wins from three races the last coming in his Queen Vase success back in June.

This race is expected to be a race Gregory takes en route to the St Leger in September and once he was announced for this race support for Courage Mon Ami eased such is how high people value this horse.

Coltrane  – 11/4

The third favourite for the Goodwood Cup is the Andrew Balding-trained six-year-old Coltrane who compared with the top two in the betting is well-raced with nineteen runs, six wins and seven second-place finishes.

Last time out Coltrane lost out by ¾ of a length to race favourite Courage Mon Ami over the two-mile four-furlong trip in Ascot and he will be expected to go close again, at 11/4 could be valuable.

Emily Dickinson – 6/1

Fourth favourite for the Goodwood Cup is one from the A P O’Brien stables the four-year-old Emily Dickinson who has fifteen races, four wins, one second and one third place finish. Last week in the Curragh the horse won over the one-mile six furling trip beating Rosscarbery by three lengths.

This was a return to form following what was described as an “underwhelming performance” in the Ascot Gold Cup in June where the horse came fourth.

Eldar Eldarov – 8/1

Fifth favourite for the Goodwood Cup is one from the Roger Varian stables the four-year-old Eldar Eldarov who has eight races, four wins, one second place finish..

Eldar finishes seventh in the Ascot Gold Cup, in what was also described as  “underwhelming” a return to form will be needed to feature here.
