Irish Greyhound Derby Betting Odds Cut For Champions Stakes Winner

One Time Only has had his odds cut for the 2022 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby after winning the 2022 BoyleSports Champion Stakes.

Picking up the cheque for €20,000 a Shelbourne Park on Saturday evening, and trained by Thomas O’Donovan from County Tipperary, One Time Only was a tremendous winner as he took up the lead from the first bend and ran on to claim the title in a time of 29.37.

This son of Droopys Sydney – Mags Image beat Twoinarow by one and a half lengths and the sponsors have trimmed him into 25/1 from 33/1 for the 2022 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby which kicks off on August 19th. The Pat Kiely trained Twoinarow remains 12/1 in the latest betting.

Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “One Time Only was a fabulous winner of our Champion Stakes and we are delighted for all his connections. He won the Irish Laurels last year and is now 25/1 from 33/1 to win the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby for trainer Thomas O’Donovan.”

Meanwhile, the BoyleSports Champion Plate final was won by Born Warrior in 29.51. Trained by Jennifer O’Donnell, Born Warrior showed exceptional pace to take up the lead and won comfortably by seven lengths to Deadly Showtime.

The son of Ballymac Best – Mountaylor Queen is now also 25/1 from 33/1 to win the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby.

Other winners on the card on Saturday night included the Michael J O’Donovan trained Coolavanny Hoffa who is 12/1 from 14/1 to win the Derby.

Pat Buckley’s Tullig Cyrname made it eight wins from eight starts and is 14/1, with those odds trimmed from 20/1 last month.

Sarah Kinsella added: “Born Warrior won the Champion Plate and is also 25/1 from 33/1 for the Derby after showing exceptional pace to win by seven lengths. The dept of quality in this year’s renewal is fantastic and we are very much looking forward to the 2022 running kicking off later this month.”
