Jake Paul vs. Nate Diaz Preview

Paul Aiming To Bounce Back From Fury Defeat

Jake Paul returns to the Boxing Ring at the weekend, his first-fight since fighting against Tommy Fury back in February. On the night of the fight, Paul lost via split decision, despite knocking Fury down in the 8th round. One judge scored it 75–74 to Paul, while the other two judges had it 76–73 to Fury.

Following that defeat, Paul has come out and said “I thank him for winning” and that has given him a Boxing reality check after his first-time fighting a professional boxer. “It’s interesting that a loss can give you more conviction on what it is that you’re supposed to be doing and what you’re here to do and can actually reset you on a proper path”.

This was the third time a Paul fight has gone the distance with him going eight rounds against Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva and Fury coming out on top in his two previous distance fights. Ironically, he goes into this fight as the more experienced fighter (well in a Boxing Ring anyway).

Nate Diaz’s Boxing Debut

Nate Diaz on the other hand will be entering a Boxing Ring for the first time after opting not not re-sign with the UFC before his last fight with Tony Ferguson, thus making Diaz a free agent once the fight finished. Nate won that fight back in September 2022 via Submission (guillotine choke) in Round 4. Unfortunately for Diaz, he won’t have that option come the weekend.

Interestingly, from Nate’s 34 MMA fights he has five wins via knockout, two defeats from a knockout but 14/34 of his fights have gone the distance with him getting the decision on four occasions and him losing out ten times.

This could come into fruition at the weekend with the fight scheduled for ten rounds both fighters may have to go longer than they have ever gone before no matter what the ring.

Diaz Hoping For An Early Knockout

Diaz is known for his stamina and durability but is twelve years older than Paul and is coming into the Boxing Ring for the first time. But he has been bullish in his pre-fight talk “I’d rather the fight be three rounds, so the quicker the better… I’m not depending on the knockout, but whatever happens happens. I’m going in there to finish the fight as soon as possible.”

UFC veteran Bobby Green has said he has been sparring with Diaz and even if Paul gets out of the first round, the longer it goes on the harder it will be for him. Diaz will slog it out like he always does and I can see the fight going on longer than many expect with the younger more experienced boxer Paul winning out later in the fight or by decision.

Prediction: Total Rounds Over 7.5 @ 20/23
