Jockey Robbie Power Reveals Return From Injury At Naas This Sunday

Robbie Power says he is “itching” to get back on the track this weekend after confirming a full recovery from the injury that has kept him sidelined for over three months.

The Gold Cup and Grand National winning jockey has been out of action since fracturing his hip in a fall at Tramore in October, but told BoyleSports, below, that he is on course to return for Sunday’s meeting at Naas.

“It’s been a long time since October when I fell at Tramore and it hasn’t been easy sitting at home watching the racing on TV over Christmas, because I was watching horses win that I may have been riding. But I had to remind myself I was no use to them because I wasn’t fit enough and my injury hadn’t healed.

“You just have to get on with it and focus on the return and recovery, although having a three-year-old daughter over Christmas keeps you on your toes and takes your mind off it a bit.

“I was a bit nervous going in to see the surgeon Professor Queally last week in Santry, but he’s very happy with the way the hip has healed up and I bounced out of his office after I got the all-clear.

“I’ve been riding out now for the last fortnight and everything feels good, I’m itching to get back on the racecourse and I’ll be able to make my return at Naas this Sunday.

“I’ve missed a good chunk of the season, but the most important part lies ahead with the Dublin Racing Festival, Cheltenham, Aintree and Fairyhouse at Easter. The next step is to get back on the horses who have been winning without me!

“A lot of people have enquired about when I’d be back, so I’ve told them all now I’m fit and ready to go and I’m looking forward to this weekend.”
