League Of Ireland First Division Table

Here’s how the First Division table looks after Round Nine!

Waterford FC v Athlone

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, April 7th

Where? Regional Sports Centre, Waterford

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Waterford are big favourites at 2/7, Athlone are 8/1 while the draw is 8/1.

Preview

Since appointing Keith Long, Waterford are showing everyone why they were once considered First Division favourites winning three out of three matches beating Finn Harps 7-1, beating Cobh Ramblers 3-1 away from home and getting a hard-fought 1-0 win over Kerry last Friday.

Waterford know a win this Friday will mean they stay second in the table and potentially cut the back to Galway to seven points with a game in hand if results went their way.

Athlone comes into the match after an impressive 2-0 victory over Cobh which meant they ended their poor run of two defeats in a row.

Athlone have are currently fifth with thirteen points from their opening nine matches.ย  A win for Athlone could bring them as high as third in the table and well in contention for a shock play-off place this season.

Prediction

Waterford 3-1 Athlone

Wexford v Finn Harps

When? 7.30 pm, Friday, April 21st

Where? Ferrycarrig Park, Wexford

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Wexford are 10/11, Finn Harps are 13/5 while the draw is 12/5

Preview

Wexford comes into this after a 2-1 away victory over Longford, which ended their three-match run without a win which was a narrow 2-1 win over Kerry back in March.

Wexford have eleven points from their opening nine matches and know another victory on Fridayย  could bring them up to fourth on the table.

Finn Harps have recovered decently from their 7-1 thrashing from Waterford at the end of March drawing 1-1 away to Kerry FC and most recently their 2-0 home victory over Treaty United last Friday Night.

Finn Harps have ten points from their opening nine matches and another victory could bring them as high as fifth and back in play-off contention.

Prediction

Home advantage should be key, Wexford 2-0 Finn Harps.

Kerry FC v Galway United

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, April 14th

Where?ย  Mounthawk Park, Kerry

How To Watch?ย LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Kerry are huge outsiders at 18/1, Galway are 1/9 while the draw is 13/2.

Preview

In their maiden League of Ireland, season Kerry has two points after nine matches into the season they are still without their first win. Last time out they travelled to the RSC to face Waterford they battled well only losing 1-0 a game which many (including myself) predicted to be a heavy defeat.

This Kerry side may not have won yet but theyโ€™re consistently competitive and no-pushovers.

Galwayโ€™s 6-0 home demolition job of Bray last week was just another example of them being on another level this season. In their opening nine matches they have nine wins, scoring twenty-nine goals and only conceding three.

Vincent Borden has continued his excellent form with seven goals and three assists in nine games. Galway know a win on Friday could increase their First Division lead to thirteen points.

Prediction

Galway are too strong, but Gaxha might score for Kerry. Kerry 1-4 Galway

Cobh Ramblers v Treaty

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, April 14th

Where? Athlone Town Stadium, Athlone

How To Watch?ย LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Cobh Ramblers are 13/10, Treaty are 7/4ย  while the draw is 23/10.

Preview

Despite their early season form Cobh have had a difficult time of it in recent weeks losing to Athlone 2-0 last Friday and in their previous match losing 3-1 to the resurgent Waterford. Still, fourteen points from their opening nine matches is more than respectable.

If Cobh can win on Friday, their seventeen points total could put them as high as second.

Treaty has been in poor form this season with only six points from their opening seven matches. However, signs have been better in recent weeks. Their dramatic 3-2 victory over Longford meant they their points tally for the season was doubled to six.

Treaty have also only one defeat in their last five matches.

Prediction

Cobh need a win after a poor run, Cobh Ramblers to win 2-1

Longford v Bray Wanderers

When? 7.30 pm, Saturday, April 15th

Where?ย Bishopsgate, Longford

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Longford are 11/5 to win this match, Bray are 21/20 while the draw is 12/5

Preview

Longford have been poor this season with six points in their opening nine matches they occupy 8th in the table with Treaty just below them ย on goal difference. ย Josh Giurgi looks a talent though with three goals and one assist this season already.

Stephen Henderson has put the blame for their poor form on him, but Longford know a win on Saturday could reduce the gap between themselves and those above them.

Bray comes into fixture following the 6-0 thrashing they received from Galway, but that shouldnโ€™t get in the way of what has been a decent season so far this season. Their fifteen points from four wins and three draws is good enough for them to currently be third in the table.

They know if they win on Saturday could bring them up to second.

Prediction

A narrow dull game, Longford Town 0-1 Bray.

In a recent post we previewed the League of Ireland Premier Division Gameweek 11 for what sets up to be another great week of Irish club football action.
