League Of Ireland Premier Division Table

Here’s how the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division table looks after Round Ten!

Shelbourne v Dundalk

When? 7.45 pm, Saturday, April 14th

Where? Dalymount Park, Dublin

How To Watch? RTÉ 2

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Shelbourne are 6/5, Dundalk are 12/5  while the draw is at 2/1

Preview

Shelbourne comes into this match on the back of a 2-2 away draw with Shamrock Rovers after squandering the 2-0 lead they had to have 54 minutes.

Shelbourne are a consistently difficult side to break down and beat which is evidenced by their record of eight goals with only seven conceded in their ten matches. A win for Shelbourne could bring them as high as third in the table.

Dundalk are in dreadful form, since their fortunate Louth Derby victory back in March they have lost to Shamrock Rovers 4-0, Sligo Rovers 2-1, and Cork City 1-0. However, they did get a decent point at home v Derry City 2-2 last Sunday.

Dundalk needs to stay in control and not allow the wheels to fall off their season already. A win v Shelbourne could bring them back on track and as high as fourth in the table again.

Prediction

This is a tight match-up, Dundalk arguably has the better players and squad but are very inconsistent in comparison to Shelbourne. Think this will be Shelbourne 1-0 Dundalk.

St Patrick’s Athletic v Shamrock Rovers

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, April 21st

Where? Richmond Park, Dublin

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

St Patrick’s Athletic are currently 14/5, Shamrock Rovers are 20/23 and the draw is 5/2.

Preview

St Patrick’s Athletic have put their early season poor form behind them and shown League of Ireland followers that they’re still a serious outfit.

Following their dramatic 2-2 away draw v Shamrock Rovers earlier in the season a late 88th-minute strike from Jake Mulraney really has clicked their season into gear.

Since that draw they have won four matches in a row beating UCD, Cork City, Drogheda and most recently Bohemians scoring a staggering fifteen goals and conceding three.

Shamrock Rover’s slow start to the season is over since their 2-2 draw v St Patrick’s Athletic they have had three wins along with their most recent match being a 2-2 comeback draw v Shelbourne showing the resilience arguably of champions again.

They are currently fourth in the table with fifteen points but know if they win and results go their way they could climb as high as second and reduce the gap at the top of the table to three points.

Prediction

This is a tough match to predict but Shamrock Rovers look to be coming to the boil so expect them to win a tight match 2-1.

Drogheda United v Bohemians

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, April 21st

Where? Weaver Park, Drogheda

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Drogheda are 5/2, Bohemians are EVS while the draw is 12/5

Preview

Drogheda comes into this match following their 1-1 away draw v Sligo where despite having less possession, they created more chances than their opponents.

Despite many predicting Drogheda to struggle this season they have been consistently competitive this season aside from maybe their 3-1 home defeat to Pats.

Emmanuel Adegboyega was back in from his controversial suspension last Friday Night and his place in the Drogheda side makes them a much more solid side at the back.

Bohemians last Friday Night lost a 3-2 thriller at home to St Patrick’s Athletic in a match where they had 54% of possession and seventeen shots to their opponent’s ten.

Despite this defeat, Bohemians have been excellent this season as they currently lead the way in the Premier Division with seven wins and three defeats from their opening ten matches.

Bohemians know that no matter the result on Friday they will remain top of the table for at least one more week.

Prediction

Drogheda are no pushovers, but I would expect Bohemians to pick up a 2-1 victory on Friday Night.

Cork City v Derry City FC

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, April 21st

Where? Turners Cross, Cork

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Cork City are outsiders at 15/4, Derry City can be gotten at 8/11 while the draw is currently 5/2.

Preview

Cork City since promotion from the First Division has been consistently inconsistent with nine points from their opening ten matches and a loss rate of 50%.

It often seems like this season that Cork City struggle when they’re expected to be competitive or win and when they aren’t will often put up a fight which would have you questioning the mentality of some of these players.

That being said, Friday Night comes to another free-hit for them and when they faced earlier in the season at The Brandywell the 2-0 scoreline flattered Derry.

Derry City are beginning to stutter, after an excellent start to the season where they were the only unbeaten side in the Division to have two defeats in their last three matches with their most recent result being a 2-2 away draw in Oriel Park.

That being said, if results go their way a win for Derry could bring them as high as second and two points off Bohemians at the top of the table which shows how tight the league is at the moment.

Prediction

Cork City have not been in good form this season and will need another mammoth effort similar to their victory over Dundalk if they’re to have a chance here, but I cannot see it. Cork City 1-3 Derry City.

Sligo Rovers v UCD

When? 7.45 pm, Saturday, April 22nd

Where? The Showgrounds, Sligo

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Sligo Rovers are 4/11, UCD are currently priced at 7/1 while the draw is 7/2.

Preview

Sligo Rovers come into this match following an interesting 1-1 home draw v Drogheda last Saturday where despite having 64% of possession, they registered only six shots to their opponent’s eight.

The 1-1 draw was enough to keep Sligo Rovers ahead of Drogheda on a goal difference of 0 vs -2 as both sides have thirteen points after ten games into the season as do Shelbourne on a goal difference of +1 in fifth. Sligo know that a win on Saturday could bring them as high as third in the table.

UCD will come into this match in confidence following their first win of the season after beating relegation rivals Cork City 1-0 at home last Friday Night after scoring 53 secs in Ciaran Behan scored a 20-yarder after Cork City lost possession near the halfway line.

That goal was enough for the win despite having 37% of possession they were far more creative with the ball getting in eight shots to their opponent’s five. UCD know if they can pull off another shock on Friday then they could reduce the gap between themselves and Cork City to just a point.

Prediction

The last time these sides played Sligo Rovers beat UCD in The Bowl in a 3-2 thriller. Home advantage will be huge for Sligo, and I can see this being a comfortable 2-0 win for them.

In a recent post we previewed the League of Ireland First Division Gameweek 10 as league leader Galway United look to extend the gap between themselves and the rest of their competitors.
