Cobh Ramblers v Waterford

Cobh Ramblers are currently 15/4 to win, Waterford are 6/10 while the draw is 11/4.

Cobh have shocked many with their performance under Shane Keegan this season and last Friday Night they continued their excellent form with a 2-1 home victory v Bray Wanderers. This win meant that they leap-frogged Bray in the table to go 2nd after accumulating 14 points from their opening seven matches with their only defeat coming to a Galway literally in perfect form.
A win v Waterford on Friday will mean that they would have already equalled their entire point total from the entirety of last season. Jack Doherty has been the star performer for Cobh so far this season with an incredible 6 Goals and 3 Assists in eight matches, he would even have more if he hadn’t missed two penalties already this season.
Early season favourites Waterford have appointed Keith Long as manager of the club along with Alan Reynolds as his assistant in the last week as the new management duo. It couldn’t have started better either as Waterford sparked into life with a 7-1 away hammering of Finn Harps to finally announce themselves as genuine title contenders.

They have currently 11 points from their opening six matches but have a game in hand over most other First Division teams. A win on Friday could put them as high as second in the league with their game in hand still to play v Treaty.
Prediction
This Munster Derby is very hard to split but despite Cobh’s great form, Waterford could be a difficult challenge for them. I’m going with a narrow 1-0 win for Waterford.

Wexford v Galway United

Wexford comes into this after a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Treaty making it two games without a win. Wexford finds themselves bang in the middle of the table in 6th place with eight points from their opening seven games. Wexford knows that a shock victory on Friday could bring them as high as 4th and back in the playoff mix which is where they will want to be at the end of the season.
Galway cannot stop winning, seven wins from seven games for a perfect twenty-one points, scoring nineteen goals and only conceding three. Last Friday they showed their resilience as a team after going one-down in the 34th minute, they had equalised by the 39th minute through David Hurley.
The comeback was complete and good form continued when another goal from David Hurley in the 59th minute and Stephen Walsh in the 74th minute wrapped up the win putting them seven points clear at the top with only seven games played!

Prediction
Statistically, Galway cannot keep winning every game, but I can see them making it eight wins in a row Friday in a 2-0 away victory.

Bray Wanderers v Athlone Town

Bray comes into this fixture following their first defeat of the season in their 2-1 defeat away to Cobh Ramblers last Friday Night. Despite this defeat, they have been solid this season with twelve points from their opening seven matches as they put themselves in early playoff contention. A win for Bray could bring them as high as 2nd in the table and would ensure they stay in 3rd place at an absolute minimum.
Athlone comes into the match after their 3-1 defeat at home v Galway despite taking the lead. However, Galway seems to be on another level in the First Division this season so that defeat will not be something that disheartens the Athlone faithful too much! Their ten points from their opening seven matches is good enough for fifth and know a win could see them leap-frog their opponents into 3rd.

This is another very difficult match to split so I’m going with a 1-1 draw.

In their maiden League of Ireland, season Kerry has one point after seven matches as they continue to look for their first win of the season. Last time out they had a 2-0 defeat away to Longford Town. The performance was encouraging again but two goals from Josh Giurgi (more on him later) put them to the sword.
There will be a time when the good feeling in Kerry will subside, and Billy Dennehy’s side will be under pressure to get results through the signs I’d argue are still good
Finn Harps come into this match with not only an extremely long travel time but not helped by the fact last weekend they were thrashed at home 7-1 to Waterford.
Manager Dave Rogers was put under the microscope and he took to Twitter “Sincere apologies to all our @FinnHarpsFC fans and especially those who spent their hard-earned money and gave up precious time to travel to Waterford today and still clap us off at the end. I am big enough to take any criticism and rightly so. Unacceptable performance. #UTH”
Finn Harps have six points from their opening seven matches and a win would be huge to relieve some of the pressure on Rogers.
Prediction
I find this match impossible to predict, I keep tipping Kerry who despite decent performances never gets the result. Finn Harps may be fragile though and have a long journey so I will go 1-0 win for Kerry.

Treaty United v Longford Town

Treaty has been in poor form this season with only one win from their opening seven matches as they currently place 8th in the table on six points. However, recent signs have been better with one defeat in their last four matches despite having not recorded their first win of the season yet.
In their last game they took the lead through an Enda Curran penalty v Wexford but could not hold the lead drawing 1-1 Could their first win of the season be around the corner?
Longford comes into this match on the back of their 2-0 victory over Kerry FC where a Josh Giurgi double (a player we have earmarked in previous weeks as a man to watch out for) was enough for the win. With six points from their opening seven matches, Longford has been unspectacular yet solid and they know a win on Friday would put them back in the playoff mix.
Prediction
Two sides in unspectacular form but there are signs Treaty are improving I’m going 1-0 to Treaty with another Enda Curran goal.
