League Of Ireland Premier Division Table

Here’s how the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division table looks after Round Seven!

Bohemians v Shamrock Rovers

When? 7.45 pm, Saturday, April 7th

Where? Dalymount Park, Dublin

How To Watch? Virgin Media Two

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Bohemians are 5/2, Shamrock Rovers are EVS while the draw is at 12/5.

Preview

Declan Devine and Bohemians lead the Premier Division with 18 points from their opening seven matches this season as they mount an early title season title challenge. Last time out they grabbed a late 83rd-minute winner from Krystian Nowak to maintain their grip at the top of the table.

The Dublin Derby is arguably the biggest game of the season and Bohemians know a win over reigning champions Shamrock Rovers would be a huge statement of intent early in the season.

Last week I said that Shamrock Rovers had flattered to deceive and failure to start picking up wins could leave their title aspirations in jeopardy. However, they sparked into life last Friday Night putting 4 Goals past Dundalk as they finally kick-started their season which had been poor before that victory.

The club now have eight points from their opening seven matches and knows that a win could put them as high as 3rd in the table. That is a dangerous thought for rivals considering they haven’t even found their full form this season yet.

Prediction

Shamrock Rovers are back and I think they will grab a narrow 2-1 win in a thrilling Dublin Derby.

Derry City v Drogheda United

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, April 7th

Where? The Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium, Derry

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Derry City are currently 4/11 to win, Drogheda are currently 7/1 and the draw is 7/2.

Preview

Derry City are still the only unbeaten team in the Premier Division with four wins and three draws from their opening six matches. In their last fixture, they had a 1-0 away win to Shelbourne to keep the pressure on Bohemians at the top of the table.

Derry are an extremely well-balanced side with the best defence with only 3 conceded along with the fourth-best attack with 11 goals scored.

My player to watch on Friday Night is former Arsenal trainee Jordan McEneff who has 4 Goals from central midfield this season as he looks to bounce back from serious injury issues he had.

Drogheda comes into this after a 1-1 draw away to Cork City which was a missed opportunity for Drogheda to get 3-points against an off-form Cork side. Drogheda are in decent form this season with 9 points from their opening 7 matches of the season.

Drogheda know a win could put them as high as 3rd in the table which would be a huge movement for a club many tipped for relegation this season. Young CB Emmanuel Adegboyega (19) was colossal in defence last Friday and will be huge to Drogheda’s chances v Derry.

Prediction

Derry are ultra-consistent this season and Drogheda were not great last Friday in Cork. Think this has 2-0 to Derry written all over it with Jordan McEneff to get one of them.

Dundalk v Sligo Rovers

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, April 7th

Where? Oriel Park, Dundalk

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Dundalk are favourites at 21/20, Sligo Rovers can be gotten at 5/2 while the draw is currently 9/4.

Preview

Dundalk host Sligo Rovers in Oriel Park Friday Night as they look to have an immediate bounce back from their 4-0 home humiliation at the hands of Shamrock Rovers last Friday Night. Despite that defeat, Dundalk have been decent this season as they’re currently 3rd in the table on eleven points from their opening seven matches.

They have a blow heading into this game however after their appeal of Robbie Benson’s red v Shamrock Rovers was rejected and he will now serve a two-game ban.

Expect Dundalk to start the match at a red-hot tempo as they look to right the wrongs of last week. A win would consolidate their 3rd place position and put them 5 points ahead of Sligo in 4th.

Sligo Rovers are also coming into this match on the back of a disappointing defeat, this time to a 1-nil home defeat to league leaders Bohemians. However, that result does not tell the whole story of the match with them registering more shots 15 to their opponent’s 11 and 52% of possession, showing they certainly were not out-classed on the night.

Despite a poor showing last week Sligo’s chances in this match will be most influenced by striker Max Mata who is in flying form this season with his 5 Goals enough to make him joint top-scorer alongside Cork City’s Ruairi Keating (another former Sligo player). A win for Sligo would have them leap-frog Dundalk into third.

Prediction

Two sides in decent form, but on the back of defeats. Dundalk could be fragile following their defeat last week and I think this could be a 1-1 draw.

St Patrick’s Athletic v Cork City

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, April 7th

Where? Richmond Park, Dublin

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

St Patrick’s Athletic are favourites at 3/4, Cork City are outsiders at 10/3 while the draw is 5/2

Preview

St Patrick’s Athletic beat UCD in Richmond Park 3-0 last week which was their second win of the season both of which have come at their home ground. This means they currently are 8th in the table with a total of eight points from their opening seven matches.

Young right-back Sam Curtis (17) who has been linked with moves to the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City was excellent last Friday and for me is their player to watch this week. A win for the club could extend their unbeaten run to three matches and bring them as high as 3rd in the table.

Cork City come into this on the back of what was arguably one of their worst performances of the season with their second poor performance in a row at home.

Their six points from their opening seven matches is only less than UCD who have one point and while Colin Healy’s men won’t be panicking a result on Friday would be a huge boost to the club.

For a side that arguably has found it easier to play away from home, they know a win on Friday could bring them as high in the table as 4th which shows how tight the league is at this early stage.

Prediction

St Patrick’s Athletic have come into form but Cork City are decent away from home so this could be a 1-1 draw.
