League Of Ireland Premier Division Table

Here’s how the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division table looks after Round Twenty-Seven

Shamrock Rovers v Dundalk

When? 7.45 pm, Friday 25th August

Where? Tallaght Stadium, Dublin

How To Watch? RTÉ 2

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Shamrock Rovers are 8/13, Dundalk are 9/2, and the draw is 13/5.

Preview

Shamrock Rovers have now only ten games left in their season due to their early exits in Europe and the FAI Cup in recent weeks/months. However, that gives them free reign to focus on securing their fourth league title in a row and it would take a foolish person to bet against them doing just that. Last time out they drew 1-1 against Shelbourne which has them four points clear at the top of the table.

Dundalk have been inconsistent this season, last week their 0-1 victory over Bray in the FAI Cup Second round qualified them for the Cup Quarter Final where they drew another First Division outfit, this time Galway away from home. However, they are currently only sixth on the league table and European Football next season is far from likely.

Prediction

Shamrock Rovers 2-1 Dundalk

UCD v St Patrick’s Athletic

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, 25th August

Where? UCD  Bowl, Dublin

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

UCD are 20/1, St Patrick’s Athletic are 1/8,  and the draw is 7/1.

Preview

UCD may be seemingly destined for relegation this season, but their last five matches (in all competitions) have been interesting. They lost 1-3 against Drogheda on the 14th of July but followed that up with a dramatic 3-2 win over Cobh Ramblers in the FAI Cup the following weekend. They lost 2-0 against Bohemians then but followed that with a spirited 1-1 draw against Cork City two weeks ago. However, on Monday they were dumped out of the cup by Galway 1-5.

St Patrick’s Athletic are having a flying season since Jon Daly has come in charge, they’re currently Shamrock Rover’s closest challengers only four points back with ten games remaining in their league season. Derry City is just behind them with one less league game played. Additionally, St Pats knocked Derry City out of the FAI Cup last weekend after a 0-0 draw they would win 3-4 on penalties. I believe they have a serious chance of claiming FAI Cup glory, but I think that will come at the expense of any league challenge.

Prediction

UCD 0-3 St Patrick’s Athletic

Bohemians v Derry City

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, 25th  August

Where? Dalymount Park, Dublin

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Bohemians are 13/18, Derry City are 9/5 and the draw is 2/1.

Preview

Bohemians occupy fourth place in the league with three wins and two draws in their last five league games and look well in place to earn European Football for next season considering they are three points and seven goals ahead of Dundalk in fifth place. Bohemians qualified for the FAI Cup final last time out with a comprehensive 6-0 win over Rockmount and having drawn Drogheda for the Quarter-Final they will fancy their chances of going all the way. A victory in this one could bring them as high as second on the table.

Derry City were knocked out of the FAI Cup at the second-round stage 3-4 on penalties against St Patrick’s Athletic last weekend which was their second elimination in four days following their European exit. However, I think both will be a blessing in disguise for the club’s league prospects. If they win their game in hand they have over Shamrock Rovers and St Patricks Athletic above them, and they could rise to second place and just two points behind Shamrock Rovers in the title race.

Prediction

Bohemians 1-3 Derry City

Drogheda United v Cork City

When? 7.45 pm, Sunday, 25h August

Where? Weavers Park, Drogheda

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Drogheda United are 10/11, Cork City are 3/1 while the draw is 12/5.

Preview

Drogheda currently occupies eighth place in the league, with two defeats, two draws and one victory but have lost their last two league games. Last weekend they had a 0-1 victory against Kerry to earn their place in the FAI Cup Quarter-Final and this season could end very specially if a few results go their way. Victory for Drogheda here would be huge, putting themselves eight points ahead of Cork City and potentially up to seventh.

Cork City are nineth with zero league wins in their last five, two draws and three defeats and are fifth points behind Drogheda in eighth. Since they last drew with UCD in the league it’s been a mixed bag, they lost in the Munster Senior Cup Final 1-3 against Cobh Ramblers but have had a 3-0 win against Waterford on Monday to book their place in the FAI Cup Quarter-Final. A win here would be huge for them in the relegation dogfight.

Prediction

Drogheda 1-1 Cork City

Sligo Rovers vs. Shelbourne

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, 26th August

Where? The  Showgrounds, Sligo

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Sligo Rovers are 8/5, Shelbourne are 7/4, and the draw is 21/10

Preview

Sligo Rovers have three defeats, one draw and one win in their last five games including two losses on the spin. That means they’re only one point in front of Drogheda and six ahead of Cork in the relegation playoff battle. A win here would be huge for their survival credentials while a draw could put them in even bigger trouble.

Shelbourne have three draws and two wins in their last five, characterising their tough-to-beat status. They have the joint-best defence in the league this season with only nineteen conceded it’s their attack which leaves them down with their thirty goals only good enough to be the joint-fourth worst attack. A win here for Shelbourne could bring them up to fifth.

Prediction

Sligo Rovers 0-1 Shelbourne
