Drogheda are currently 5/2 to continue their good form and win the Louth Derby while Dundalk are currently 21/20. The draw can be had at 9/4.

Preview

The Louth Derby opens the Paddy’s Day Weekend of fixtures on Thursday where Drogheda play host to Dundalk in Weavers Park. Tipped by many to struggle this season, Drogheda has been in decent form since the start of the season with two wins, two draws and one defeat in their first five games with a neutral goal difference they create an average of 1.73 XG per game and give away 1.38 XG per game.

Dundalk comes into the Louth Derby with an identical record to their rivals with two wins, two draws and one defeat in their first five games only separated by their +5-goal difference. Dundalk is creating an average of 1.18 XG per game and giving away 1.58 XG per game.

Prediction

Both sides are inseparable when it comes to the form book for the 2023 Season. The head-to-head in the last five games reads Dundalk three wins and Drogheda two wins. I think it’s time for a scored draw and I’m going with a 1-1 prediction.

Cork City v Shelbourne

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Newly promoted Cork City are favourites for this clash at 13/10 while Shelbourne are 21/10 to get an away win. The draw is also priced at 21/10.

Preview

Cork City have been in decent form since their return to the Premier Division with one win, two draws and two defeats. A young side, their inexperience has been evident in their last two matches losing a 4-2 lead away to Shamrock Rovers to draw 4-4 and a 2-0 lead away to Sligo to draw 2-2.

Cork City have been of high entertainment value throughout this season being the division’s top scorers with eleven goals and the joint-worst defence with ten conceded. They are creating an average of 1.36 XG per match and conceding an average of 1.76 XG per match.

Damien Duff’s Shelbourne comes into this clash with an identical record to Cork City with one win, two draws and two defeats.

However, that is where the comparisons start and finish, while Cork City has been dubbed the “entertainers” Shelbourne are considered by some as “boring” with the worst attack in the division with only two goals.

They also have the second-best defence only conceding three, Derry are the only club to have a better defensive record. Shelbourne creates an average of 0.96 XG per game while giving away an XG of 1.19 per game.

Prediction

Cork City and Shelbourne both come into the game with identical records just doing so in very different ways. I again suspect another 1-1 could be on the cards with free-scoring Cork opening the Shelbourne defence but also leaving themselves open for goals on the other end.

Shamrock Rovers v St Patrick’s Athletic

When? 5pm, Friday, March 16th

Where? Tallaght Stadium, Dublin

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Reigning champions for the last three years Shamrock Rovers enter as heavy favourites for the Dublin Derby at 31/50 while Shelbourne are 11/4. If you fancy a draw this can be gotten at 15/4.

Preview

Shamrock Rovers have had a sluggish start to the season failing to win a match they have drawn four games and have one defeat. This is despite them boasting arguably some of the biggest stars in the league like Rory Gaffney, Jack Byrne and Johnny Kenny.

Ill-discipline could be one of the main factors given for their poor form with six of the season’s red cards gone to Rovers players. The club have seven goals scored this season from an average of 2.04 xG per match which means they are under-performing on what they should be scoring they have conceded eight goals from an average of 1.50 XG per match.

St Patrick’s Athletic also come into this match despite being expected by most to be battling it out for Europe. The club started the season with one draw and one win but has lost their last three matches to put manager Tim Clancy under pressure. They have the joint second-

worst attack with three goals and an XG of 1.19 goals per match. They have also the joint worst defence with ten goals conceded an XG of 1.19 goals per match.

Prediction

Both teams come into this game in poor form, but I can’t see Shamrock Rovers continuing to underperform. Expect Shamrock Rovers to put St Patrick’s Athletic to the sword in the Dublin Derby and win 3-0.

Derry City v Sligo Rovers

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Derry City comes into this match-up as heavy 1/2 favourites while Sligo Rovers are priced at 11/2. The draw can be gotten at 14/5

Preview

Derry City remains the only unbeaten side in the Premier Division this season with three wins and two draws proving many people’s expectations that Derry would be title contenders again this season to be correct.

Derry has the joint second-best attack this season with nine goals along with Bohemians and Dundalk, only Cork City has scored more with eleven. They have the best defence in the division with only two goals conceded. They are creating an average of 1.40 XG per match and are conceding an XG of 1.04 goals per match.

Sligo expected by many to struggle has been in great form this season with two wins, two draws and only one defeat from their first five matches. Last time out a fortuitous late penalty was enough for them to come from 2-0 behind to get a 2-2 draw vs Cork City.

They have scored eight goals from an average of 1.85 XG per match, conceding seven goals from an XG of 1.67 per match.

Prediction

I expect Derry City to maintain their unbeaten form and win 2-0 vs Sligo.

Bohemians v UCD

When? 7.45pm, Friday, March 16th

Where? Dalymount Park, Dublin

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

MATCH BETTING ODDS

League Leaders Bohemians will enter this match as very strong favourites at 11/50 to win the game, UCD are rank outsiders at 9/1 while the draw can be gotten at 9/2.

Newly promoted Cork City are favourites for this clash at 13/10 while Shelbourne are 21/10 to get an away win. The draw is also priced at 21/10.

Preview

Bohemians lead the way at the top of the table with four wins and one defeat from their opening five matches despite mixed predictions on how they would do this season from the League of Ireland community.

Bohemians has the joint second-best attack this season with nine goals along with Derry and Dundalk, only Cork City has scored more with eleven and have the best defense in the league only conceding two. They are creating an average of 1.40 XG per match and are conceding an XG of 1.04 goals per match.

UCD were expected to struggle this season with the loss of key assets in the off-season including Colm Whelan to Derry City and Tommy Lonergan to St Patrick’s Athletic. They have four defeats from their opening five games with their singular point coming from their 1-1 draw away to Dundalk on the opening day of the season.

UCD play a progressive passing style of play which to their detriment leaves them open at the back. They have three goals this season from an XG of 0.84 goals per match, while they have the worst defense with thirteen goals conceded from an XG of 1.67 given away per match.

In other footballing news, Man United travel to Spain to take on Real Betis in the second leg of their Europa League clash which we previewed in a recent post.

Prediction

I cannot see past league leaders Bohemians not piling on the misery to bottom of the table UCD. My prediction is a 5-0 Bohemians win.
