Shamrock Rovers v Bohemians Odds

Shamrock Rovers are 8/13, Bohemians is 15/4  and the draw is 3/1.

Preview

Shamrock Rovers are finally starting to stamp their authority on the Premier Division as they come into the Dublin Derby looking to reduce the gap between themselves to only one point at the top of the table following their slow start.

In their last match, they had an impressive performance away from Derry last Friday Night defeating their title rivals 0-2 to make a big statement early in the title race making it four wins and a draw in their last five matches.  A win for Shamrock Rovers will put them only one point behind Bohemians at the top of the table.

Bohemians lead the Premier Division with 28 points from their opening thirteen matches and it must be said they are having a fantastic season under Declan Devine. In their last match, they absolutely demolished an out-of-form Cork City 5-0  to make it three wins, one draw and one defeat in their last five matches.

This is a huge Dublin Derby for Bohemians as they know a win over Shamrock Rovers would mean people would have to finally accept them as genuine title contenders while putting them seven points clear at the top in the process.

Prediction

Shamrock Rovers  3-0 Bohemians

Expect another big Shamrock Rovers performance.

Shelbourne v UCD Odds

Shelbourne is 4/11, UCD is 15/2  while the draw is at 10/3

Preview

Shelbourne comes into this match following a 1-1 away draw to Drogheda a match where they can be considered fortunate to get a point as Drogheda had 19 shots to their 9. Following the game manager Damien Duff was as honest as ever in his assessment of his team’s performance “To come away with a point after the performance we put in, I guess I’m happy with the point”.

But it is clear from this performance (and in other weeks) that Shelbourne are a well-drilled and coached outfit who are extremely tough to beat no matter who the opposition is. With two wins and three draws in their last five games, they are currently sixth but know a win against UCD could bring them as high as fourth on the table and well in European contention.

UCD are currently bottom of the table with six points coming from their opening thirteen matches but they have been more defensively solid in recent weeks with only nine goals conceded in their last five matches and two clean sheets in their last six.

In their last match, they lost 2-0 at home to Dundalk but in the game previous they earned an excellent 1-1 home draw against Bohemians which means the gap to Cork City above them is now only 3 points. UCD know if they can pull off another shock on Friday then they could go level on points with Cork City as they look to prove everybody wrong again.

Prediction

Shelbourne 2-0 UCD

Shelbourne will do a professional albeit probably unspectacular job against UCD and win.

Drogheda United v Derry City Odds

Drogheda is 15/4, Derry is 8/11, while the draw is 5/2.

Preview

Drogheda comes into this match following their 1-1 draw against Shelbourne at home and can perhaps consider themselves unlucky not to win. They only needed 41% of possession to get in nineteen shots to their opponent’s nine.

Nevertheless, Drogheda has not been great in recent weeks (at least in terms of results) with three defeats and two draws in their last five matches meaning they currently lie in 8th position on fourteen points. A win for Drogheda could bring them up to seventh on the table.

Derry City last time out lost 2-0 at home against title rivals Shamrock Rovers meaning in their last five matches they have a mixed record of two defeats, two wins and one draw.

Derry often has fared better away from the controversial Brandywell pitch and knows that a win on Friday Night could bring them as high as second on the table as they look to keep in touch with Bohemians at the top.

Prediction

Drogheda 0-2 Derry

Drogheda has been poor of late while Derry often performs even better away from home.

Cork City v St Patrick’s Athletic

Cork City v St Patrick’s Athletic Odds

Cork City is 2/1, St Patrick’s Athletic can be gotten at 6/5 while the draw is currently 12/5.

Preview

Cork City are in dismal form with four defeats and one win in their last five league matches meaning they currently occupy ninth position in the league five points off Drogheda above them and with UCD now only three points behind them in tenth.

The pressure seems to be piling on Colin Healy, his management team, and their players as they look to not get cut adrift from the rest of the league before the summer window with signings expected. Former Sligo Rovers manager Liam Buckley has been announced as the new Sporting Director which was an interesting move by the club.

You can’t help but feel that a win for St Patrick’s Athletic in Cork on Friday and he could be replacing Colin Healy in the dugout.

St Patrick’s Athletic are another club in relative turmoil having confirmed on Tuesday that Tim Clancy has resigned from his position as First Team Manager by mutual consent. This was following a disappointing season thus far for The Pats faithful.

Many considered them European contenders and some even shouted they could be title contenders, but it hasn’t come to fruition yet this season anyway. In their last match, they lost 1-0 at home to Sligo Rovers to make it three defeats in their last three and sealing Clancy’s faith.

Assistant Manager and former Rangers player Jon Daly takes interim charge and a win for them on Friday could shockingly bring them as high as fourth on the table.

Prediction

Cork City 2-0 St Patrick’s Athletic

Two clubs in sorry states, Pats should have enough to win but I am going rogue with this prediction.

Sligo Rovers v Dundalk Odds

Sligo Rovers are 21/20, Dundalk are currently priced at 5/2 while the draw is 9/4.

Preview

Sligo Rovers come into this match following a 1-0 away victory over St Patrick’s Athletic to make it two wins, two defeats and one draw in their last five matches.

They currently occupy sixth place on the league table which shows that many who tipped them for relegation trouble at the start of the season are currently very wide of the mark! A win for Sligo on Saturday and it could bring them as high as third on the table which would be an excellent return this early into the season.

Dundalk started the season slow with many underwhelming performances to put some early season pressure on O’Donnell and his squad of players.

However, in recent times they have been performing more effectively and on their last outing they beat their usual bogey team UCD 2-0 in The Bowl making it two wins, two draws and one defeat in their last five matches along with being unbeaten in their last four. A win for Dundalk on Friday could bring them up also up to third  and back in European Contention which shows how close the league is this season.

Prediction

This is a tough one call and part of me suspects both sides will cancel one another out. Sligo Rovers 1-1 Dundalk
