League Of Ireland First Division Table

Here’s how the First Division table looks after Round Twelve!

Galway United v Waterford

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, May 5th

Where?  Eamon Deacy Park, Galway

Galway United v Waterford Odds

Galway is 11/10, Waterford is 23/10  while the draw is 21/10.

Preview

Galway looked like they were never going to be beaten winning their first eleven matches of the season and with nobody knowing when their first defeat of the season would come. It was last Saturday away to Longford who had been in poor form before the match but managed to get a 1-0 home victory to end their unbeaten run.

Despite that defeat, they are seven points clear at the top still and a return to winning ways on Friday would put them ten points clear at the top of the table only thirteen games into the season.

Since appointing Keith Long, Waterford were showing everyone why they were once First Division favourites winning their last five matches of the season. However last Friday Night they lost at home 0-1 to Wexford meaning that they didn’t capitalise on what would be Galway’s defeat the next day.

Waterford knows a win against Galway would reduce the gap at the top of the table to just four points despite Galway’s early season dominance and their stuttering start.

Prediction

Galway to return to winning ways Galway 2-0 Waterford

Treaty United v Athlone Town Odds

Where? Markets Field, Limerick

Treaty United v Athlone Town Odds

Treaty is 13/10, Athlone is 7/4 while the draw is 23/10.

Preview

Treaty had a poor start to the season but in recent times they have started to show people that they are no pushovers winning their last two matches beating Kerry 4-0 at home and beating Bray in Dublin 3-0 last Friday Night.

These two victories are enough to put Tommy Barrett and Treaty only three points off a Play-Off place. A win for Treaty could bring them as high as fifth on the table which would be impressive considering their slow start to the season.

Athlone comes into the match after a comprehensive 1-4 away victory over Finn Harps making it three wins and two defeats in their last five matches as they currently occupy third on the table.

A win for Athlone would ensure they stay third and could reduce the gap to Waterford in second place to four points if they were to be beaten by Galway.

Prediction

Treaty 1-2 Athlone

Treaty have been in good form in recent weeks but so have Athlone and I think they should have too much quality for them.

Wexford v Bray

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, May 5th

Where? Ferrycarrig Park, Wexford

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

Wexford v Bray Wanderers Odds

Wexford is 6/4, Bray is 6/4  while the draw is 13/5.

Preview

Wexford comes into this following their shock 0-1 away victory over Waterford last Friday Night that win meant they had two wins and three defeats in their last five league matches. Wexford has fourteen points from their opening twelve matches and knows another victory on Friday could bring them up to fifth on the table.

Bray are out of form of late, with three defeats, one draw and one win in their last five league matches. Last Friday Night they were humbled 0-3 at home by Treaty in what was a minor shock after Treaty’s poor early season form.

Despite this, Bray still occupy fifth in the league. The Wanderers know a win on Friday could bring them up to third on the table.

Prediction

Two inconsistent m sides, but I fancy Bray for this match, Wexford 0-1 Bray

Cobh Ramblers v Finn Harps

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, May 5th

Where?  St Colman’s Park, Cobh

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

Cobh Ramblers v Finn Harps Odds

Cobh are 20/23 Finn Harps are 13/5 to win this match while the draw is 5/2

Preview

Cobh comes into this following a comprehensive 4-1 home victory over Kerry which ended a run of three defeats and one draw in their previous four matches. Shane Keegan’s troops will be relieved with the victory and will be hoping they can now return to their good early-season form.

If Cobh can win on Friday, their twenty-one-point total could put them as high as third and only five points off Waterford in second.

Finn Harps last Monday were defeated 1-4 at home to Athlone which was a disappointing result especially considering their recent form where they had two draws and two wins in their previous four matches.

Finn Harps have fourteen points from their opening twelve matches and another victory could bring them as high as fifth and well in playoff contention.

Prediction

Cobh 2-1 Finn Harps

Kerry v Longford

When? 7.45 pm, Friday, May 5th

Where? Mounthawk Park, Kerry

How To Watch? LOITV.ie

Kerry v Longford Odds

Kerry is 5/1, Longford is 4/7 while the draw is 5/2.

Preview

In their maiden League of Ireland, season Kerry are only after earning two points in their opening twelve matches. Despite being largely competitive in their games they have still not been good enough to win a match and were humbled 4-1 by Munster Rivals Cobh last time out.

When this team was announced the goal was to bring sustainable soccer to the county and that is what they’re achieving but would be nice to see them pick up a win sooner rather than later.

Longford were having a poor season before last Saturday when they shocked runaway league leaders Galway beating them 1-0 in Bishopsgate. This win should bring a renewed sense of optimism and confidence to the side as they travel to Kerry Friday Night.

Longford knows a win would put them on fourteen points and potentially as high as sixth on the table and into play-off contention an impressive feat considering their poor start to the season.

Prediction

Kerry 0-1 Longford

We have also previewed the League of Ireland Premier Division action for this upcoming week including a mouth-watering top of the table Dublin Derby between Bohs and Shamrock Rovers.
