A punter in Co. Sligo is toasting their horse racing knowledge after sensationally bagging a second five-figure win in the space of four months.

They rang in their latest winning wager staking a total of €15.50 on five horses in a €0.50 Lucky 31.

All horses were running at Newcastle on Tuesday and while 6/1 pick Royal Birth finished last in the 5.00, victories for Sanaadh (14/1), Ventura Lightning (11/1), New Dynasty (16/1) and Moretti (28/1) were enough to trigger the windfall.

The winning run was worth an initial €19,199.50, but because all four horses won at bigger starting prices than when they were picked out,

a best odds guarantee kicked in and took the total haul to a jaw-dropping total of €56,159.50.

That made it two mammoth payouts in recent months after a previous punt from the same stake in the autumn picked up just short of €82,700.
