Liverpool v Everton Prediction, Preview & Odds – Premier League

We have a Liverpool v Everton prediction plus odds for you as we preview Saturday’s Merseyside Derby in the Premier League’s early kick-off.

Liverpool looked like they were back to their previous best following a wobble last season with a flying start to their league season. However, they’re winless in their last two league games following their controversial defeat against Tottenham and draw against bogey team Brighton.

Everton occupy 16th place in the table, but following two league victories in their last three games has given under-pressure Manager Sean Dyche some breathing room as he looks to avoid the sack.

Liverpool v Everton Form

Liverpool’s Form

Liverpool followed their disappointing trophyless season last year (along with a fifth finish) with a much-needed squad reshuffle.

They’ve sold some of the stalwarts who formed the bedrock of their “success” in recent years with Milner, Keita, Chamberlain, Henderson Fabinho and striker Firminho all leaving. They completely freshened up the midfield with the signings of Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Endo and Gravenberch coming in.

The freshened-up Liverpool squad had a near faultless start in their opening five league games drawing 1-1 against Chelsea in their opening league game of the season before winning their next five league games dispatching Bournemouth, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Wolves and West Ham scoring fourteen goals and conceding only conceding four goals.

However, Liverpool have stuttered in the league in recent weeks (albeit in controversial circumstances) losing 2-1 to Tottenham and succumbing to a late Brighton goal before the International Break to draw 2-2 away from home.

Liverpool lies in fourth place in the table three points adrift of surprise league leaders Tottenham which is fairly aligned with their position on the Expected Points Table (Per Understat) where they’re in fifth place interestingly only one place ahead of their opponents Everton.

Everton’s Form

The Dyche era at Everton has already been some sort of roller coaster ride despite him only coming into the dugout replacing Lampard in January. When he came into the club they were in the relegation zone but a late-season flurry of seven points in their last four games of the season meant they avoided relegation coming ahead of Leicester

During the summer window, they struggled to make significant signings, despite losing plenty of regular first-team squad-members from the previous season. The only permanent additions were veteran Ashley Young for free, Chermiti came from Sporting for £12.9m and Beto from Udinese for £26m. The only other additions were Danjuma and Harrison who both came in on loan.

Everton opened their Premier League season with four defeats and one draw (2-2 against Sheffield United), but that doesn’t tell the full story only being beaten by a sole goal in three of those games including against Arsenal.

In recent weeks their “luck” has begun to turn with a brilliant 1-3 victory against Brentford, which was followed by a narrow 1-2 defeat against Luton before beating Bournemouth 3-0 before the International Break.

What’s most clear to me is that Everton are no “easy victory” like they were under Lampard, Dyche has made them difficult to beat and competitive in most matches.

While Everton are 16th in the table, their Expected Points have them in seventh place, just one place behind Liverpool. It shows their results look like they will only improve further as the season progresses.

Liverpool v Everton Prediction & Best Bet

Prediction: Liverpool 2- 0 Everton

Liverpool will be looking to put their misfortunate two weeks before the international break behind them and return to winning ways in the Merseyside Derby with a victory and you would be foolish to back against them in a fixture they usually have the better of Everton in.

Everton had it not been for poor finishing scoring only nine goals from an Expected Goals of 17.56 they’d be seventh in the Expected Points table. Everton are creating chances but not taking them so I think Liverpool win this narrowly.

Best Bet: Under 2.5 Goals @ 15/4
