Sawyer believes West Ham face a huge test against a reinvigorated Liverpool side as they make the trip to Anfield in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.

Sawyer was speaking after Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over champions Manchester City, which extended their unbeaten streak at home in the league to 28 matches.

Now Sawyer has warned their rivals of a resurgent Liverpool, as the Hammers seek to end a five-game losing streak when facing the Reds on the road.

“This will be a different test to Manchester City,” she told BoyleSports. “West Ham will surrender possession and look to counter-attack, but Liverpool can take so much confidence into this one.

“Man City was the type of game that could turn the season around for them and to have stood up to the league’s top scorers and kept them quiet as they did at Anfield is a massive plus point.

“So many had written them off. It wasn’t necessarily the Liverpool of old, but it was much better than we’ve seen in recent games.

“City were actually perfect opponents for Mo Salah to play after the hat-trick against Rangers because he had to raise his game and he came to the fore.

“Sometimes all it takes is that goal to get yourself going again and he has the swagger back needed for these games. The defence was also the best we’ve seen them for a while.”
