Mabs Cross To Land The Spoils At The Curragh

We hit the crossbar with Ardhoomey yesterday in the Scurry Stakes at the Curragh and it is a bit harder to find similar chances at a big price but the big sprint on the card at HQ does look to feature the best bet on Sunday.

Dods back across for more

British sprinters do have a great record when travelling over to the Curragh and three of the seven runners in the line up for the Sapphire Stakes will be making the trip across the Irish Sea but Mabs Cross is the one expected to come out on top.

Trainer Michael Dods won the race with the admirable Mecca’s Angel a couple of a years ago and will have a fair handle on what is required to take this Group 2 contest and Mabs Cross appears to have the form to land the spoils.

The four-year-old filly was third and ran a blinder in the Kings Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot last month but she is already a five time winner over the minimum trip and just looks improving enough to make her mark in this drop in class.

From 10 starts she has won five times and the ground isn’t an issue so if able to repeat that Royal Ascot run it should be enough and while she is short enough at 7/4, it is hard to look beyond her.

Walsh to be King at Tipperary

Due to the ongoing dry weather conditions in Ireland the decision was taken a couple of weeks ago to turn today’s Tipperary meeting into an all chase card and the beginners chase for horses not rated higher than 102 was divided to help make a seven race card.

Ted Walsh will send Sam King down the Limerick Junction and the nine-year-old should be hard to beat.

Walsh won’t have left anything to chance with Sam King’s schooling and he is already a point-to-point winner under stable amateur Michael Stenson who takes the ride today and claims a valuable 7lbs.

The conditions of the race means that in the eyes of the handicapper Sam King is at the height of the horses allowed to run and again, while Sam King isn’t a massive price, he should be a rewarding horse to follow on this occasion.
