Masters Legend Warns Rory McIlroy Ahead Of Augusta Tournament

Rory McIlroy has been warned by Ian Woosnam he’ll need to improve his iron game if he competes in The Masters at Augusta.

McIlroy will attempt to complete a career grand slam at the first major championship of the year, but Woosnam is concerned that his iron play may scupper his chances of competing at the business end of the leaderboard.

“If you drive it down and drive it well, which is one of McIlroy’s benefits, it should suit him down to the ground,” Woosnam told BoyleSports.

“But McIlroy this year has been struggling with his irons a little bit and you really need to be a good iron player at Augusta and get that ball into the right position.

“If you don’t do that, you’ll struggle to two-putt and hole the longer putts to keep you in contention.”
