Alison Hammond has been installed as the clear odds-on frontrunner with bookmaker BoyleSports to replace Holly Willoughby on This Morning.
Months after co-host Philip Schofield departed the popular ITV daytime show after admitting he lied about an affair with a younger colleague, a tumultuous year took a fresh twist this week when Holly announced she was also stepping away after 14 years.
Hammond is believed to hold a strong hand as she already presents the Friday slot with Dermot O’Leary and has regularly stepped in to replace Holly in the past, and odds of 4/6 with BoyleSports earmark her as the leading candidate to present on a more permanent basis.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said:
“ITV has found itself in the eye of the storm this year, but Alison Hammond boasts the experience and punters are confident she’s the safe pair of hands to steady the ship.”
Other Contenders To Become Next This Morning Host
A return for This Morning legend Judy Finnegan is rated unlikely at 100/1, but Josie Gibson is one of the leading contenders as 5/2 second favourite, while Rochelle Humes (6/1) and Lisa Snowden (16/1) are both familiar faces to This Morning viewers and are tipped to make the shortlist for ITV bosses.
While the new permanent double act remains unclear there has even been rumours that the long-running institution faces the axe. However, odds of 10/1 suggest there is only an outside chance of This Morning being removed from the schedules.
Perhaps the broadcaster wants to go in a different direction with their morning content or to freshen things up after the departures of their two longtime serving hosts in recent months.
One thing is for sure, it will be fascinating to see how everything plays out as the announcement of Holly Willoughby’s departure is set to shake things up at ITV.
