Nottingham Forest v Brighton Preview
Nottingham Forest’s Form
Nottingham Forest, following their promotion into the league last season, narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League despite being 18th with four games remaining. They earned a total of eight points in those final four games with wins against Southampton, and Arsenal and draws against Chelsea and Crystal Palace to finish 16th.
Forest had a lot of squad turnover last year which continued this year with ten permanent first-team signings including Elanga, Wood, Hudson-Odoi and Irish International Omobamidele. Loan signings like Montiel and Origi could also prove shrewd but the loss of Brennan Johnson to Tottenham could be irreplaceable.
Nottingham Forest are currently 12th with seven points from their opening six matches. While Forest could be criticised for the overwhelmingly negative/defensive style of play it does keep them in games with Manchester City last weekend becoming the first team to beat them by more than one goal. They should make things difficult again for this Brentford side.
Brentford had a brilliant year last season with their 59-point total good enough for 9th in the table and it was also only three points behind Brighton who finished in the final Europa League spot.
Coming into this season many speculated as to whether this success could be maintained or if it was just a flash in the pan.
During the summer transfer window, Brentford conducted their business in typical Brentford fashion. They bought shrewdly with the majority of signings initially brought in for their B-Team and youth sides.
The main acquisitions for the Bees were goalkeeper Flekken from Freiburg for £11m, striker Schade for £22m and Irish defender Collins from Wolves costing £23m. Interestingly Maupay came in on loan too from their opponents in this game. Keeper David Raya was the only departure of note who left for Arsenal on loan.
Brentford have struggled early on this season compared to their form in the league last season. They’re currently 13th (one place below Nottingham Forest) and have only two points in their last four league games.
It should be noted though that Brentford, which is modelled on “Choosing Wisely”, have performed better than what their current record would suggest. The Expected Points Table for the Premier League on UnderStat has them in 9th place, putting them four places above Nottingham Forest based on the advanced analytics.

Nottingham Forest v Brentford Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Nottingham Forest 0-2 Brentford
Nottingham Forest are notoriously difficult to break down and Brentford has under-performed their XG by two goals so far this season
However, there are far too many positives about the club for them to continue to underperform in the goals category. Brentford are due for a big performance and I think they could have it here.
Best Bet: Brentford -1 @ 9/2
