Willie Mullins

Pairofbrowneyes Favourite To Hand Mullins 1st Irish Grand National Victory

The BoyleSports sponsored Irish Grand National is almost upon us and Willie Mullins will be looking to break his hoodoo in the race with top entries like Rathvinden, Total Recall and Pairofbrowneyes.

We have reduced some of the fancied selections in the betting for the €500,000 Easter Monday showdown.

The Storyteller is a 33/1 shot to win the race for Gordon Elliott having been allocated the top weight of 11-10 but money has come for Pairofbrowneyes, who beat stablemate Isleofhopendreams to the Leinster National last month and is now a joint market leader at 8/1 from 10/1.

Mullins also has the 2017 Ladbrokes Trophy Chase winner Total Recall, with his odds being cut to 14/1 from 25/1 having finished behind subsequent Gold Cup winner Al Boum Photo at Tramore in January.

His last appearance was in January in Thurles finishing third to Tout Est Permis, who is an unchanged 14/1 chance to give trainer Noel Meade his second win in this prestigious race.

Ted Walsh’s Kim Muir winner Any second Now has also made a move up the market from 10/1 to 8/1 and is now the joint favourite alongside Pairofbrowneyes.

Aintree Grand National two-time hero Tiger Roll remains in the betting at 10/1 but connections have said that the champion is now on his holidays and will return next season.

His jockey Davy Russell has never won the Irish Grand National but with Gordon Elliott having 34 entries, it’s a guessing game on who the champion jockey will ride but Delta Work could be the one available at 16/1, cut from 20/1.

Discorama is another who is fancied after his gallant effort in the Challenge Cup in Cheltenham last month finishing second. Discorama is 12/1 from 14/1 to land trainer Paul Nolan his first win in this race.
