Paul Callaghan’s Cheltenham 2021 Betting Tips – Day 4

Former jockey turned broadcaster Paul Callaghan with his tips for Day 4 of Cheltenham!

Triumph Hurdle.
The Gordon Elliott trained Zanahiyr has been impressive so far over hurdles and is a perfect 3 victories from 3 starts. He impressed at Leopardstown when scoring in Grade 2 company over the Christmas period and I think is a worthy favourite. Current price 7/4.

Saint Sam was a staying on fourth behind Zanahiyr in that Grade 2 contest at Leopardstown. He wasn’t knocked about when his chance of winning had gone but made up eye catching ground from the home turn. Current price 25/1.

Saint Sam is also entered in the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle on day 1, where he may line up instead and he’s currently priced at 7/1.

Al Boum Photo bids to be the first horse since Best Mate to win three Gold Cups. He’s gone the tried and tested route once again and I hope he does it.

He looked better than ever at Tramore on New Year’s Day. Current price 5/2.

Royal Pagaille would be a serious contender on soft ground. He’s won his last three and that saw his handicap mark take a leap from 135 to 166. I think he may find things happening too fast on drier ground. Current price 15/2.

Native River’s longevity is a credit to himself and connections. He runs with his heart on his sleeve and is worth an each way play, currently priced at 12/1.

I would question Santini’s attitude. He had to be humoured along at different stages in last year’s running of the race and I thought a staying on Monalee spurred him on in the closing stages.

When he gets near the front he just tends to pull the handbrake up so is not for me.

I am a huge Lostintranslation fan but it would be a sentimental investment, should one invest (I’m not) following both his lacklustre runs this season.

A lot can happen in the life of a horse in 24 hours. On Tuesday, it will be four weeks until the Cheltenham Festival gets underway, I hope all athletes turn up in one piece and let battle commence!
