Snap Irish General Election Price Slashed To Happen In 2019

The odds on a general election taking place in Ireland before the year is out have been cut after punters rallied behind the chances of a snap election in the event of a Brexit deal being struck.

Leo Varadkar is expected to come under pressure to call an early election from his own party, who believe their chances of electoral success would be at their highest soon after any Brexit deal is agreed; a scenario that has been talked up since the Taoiseach’s meeting with Boris Johnson last week.

We have now cut the odds on a 2019 election after increased support from punters, who backed it into 2/1 from 5/1 on Monday morning.

It’s still 2/7 that the election takes place next year, but that had been a more likely 2/9 shot at the weekend.

As it stands, Fianna Fáil are the party in poll position according the odds as 8/11 favourites to win most seats, while Fine Gael have lost their long-term grip on favouritism and are out at Even money.
