Following the final round of play in the 2023 Premier League Darts, the final four for this year’s Premier League is known. That top four is Gerwyn Price, Michael Smith, Michael Van Gerwen and Jonny Clayton who all qualified for Thursday’s Play-Offs as we look to crown the 2023 Premier League Champion.

Premier League Darts Table

The final league table was as follows:

Gerwyn Price v Jonny Clayton – Semi-Final 1

The first Semi-Final is an All-Welsh affair after Gerwyn Price topped the table at the end of the league phase despite being beaten in the Night 16 Final last week to Dimitri Van den Bergh in a 5-6 thriller. As a result, he qualified to face fourth-placed finisher and fellow compatriot Jonny Clayton in the semi-finals of the playoffs.

Clayton was the last player to secure a spot on finals night on Thursday. In spite of a 1-6 defeat at the hands of Nathan Aspinall his leg differential of -15 was enough to edge past the Englishman at -16.

The form book obviously favours Gerwyn Price after his League record of 24 wins and 12 defeats with the highest average of the tournament at 98.31 and a checkout rate of 39.3%.

At the weekend he lost to Mike De Decker in the ProTour Semi-Final. However, Clayton who had a record of 14 wins to 14 defeats, along with an average of 94.7 and a checkout rate of 44.04%, comes into this on the back of a ProTour win at the weekend.

Prediction:  Gerwyn Price 10-8 Jonny Clayton

Best Bet: Correct Score Gerwyn Price 10-8 @ 7/1

Michael Smith v Michael Van Gerwen – Semi-Final 2

The second Semi-Final is between Michael Smith and Michael van Gerwen. This year’s second semi-final is a repeat of the 2018 Premier League Final.

Van Gerwen won on that occasion 11-4 thanks to an average of 112. However, since then Michael Smith has come on leaps and bounds in terms of his temperament and consistency at the top table of darts which culminated in his first-ever World Championship victory back in January.

Michael Smith finished in second place on the table following a record 20 wins and 12 defeats with an average of 97.70 and a checkout rate of 39.40%. What’s most remarkable about his Premier League form is after night 12/16 he was only fifth on the table but a run of victories on Night 13, Night 14 and Night 15 catapulted him to second on the table. That remarkable run of wins is a testament to his tougher character as a player now.

The 2022 Premier League Champion Michael Van Gerwen can go ahead of Phil Taylor on the All-Time Premier League winners table with 7 victories if he can be successful on Thursday Night.

Michael Van Gerwen finished third on the table with 19 wins and 13 defeats, averaging 98.19 with a checkout rate of 37.85% with his best run of form coming when he won Night 4, Night 5 and Night 6 three weeks in a row. He was injured at the event last week and withdrew it remains to be seen whether this injury is still affecting him following his defeat to Josh Rock at the weekend.
