Premier League Relegation Betting Favourites

Sheffield United

The favourites to be relegated at the end of the 2023/24 Premier League season are Sheffield United at odds of 1/8. Those odds imply that there is a 88.9% chance of Sheffield being relegated in this upcoming season.

The Blades gained promotion to the Premier League courtesy of a 2nd place in the Championship last season. They finished way behind winners Burnley (10 points) but also comfortably ahead of the Play-Off places (11 points).

Sheffield made a total of seven first-team additions during the summer including the midfield additions of Hamer from Coventry and Davies from Everton. Archer was also an interesting striking addition late in the window.

However, despite being competitive in a large amount of their games, they’ve only one-point from their opening nine matches and already look certainties to be relegated straight back to the Championship.

Verdict? Relegation – 20thplace finish

Luton Town

Luton Town are also strong favourites at odds of 1/r=5 to be one of the three relegated teams for this upcoming 2023/24 Premier League season. Those odds imply that there is a 83.3%  chance that Luton will be relegated from the Premier League this season.

It is hard to disagree with the odds makers here who clearly think that Luton will be struggling to avoid the drop in their debut season in the Premier League. Luton of course won the Championship Play-Off Final against Coventry City to secure the final promotion spot to England’s top flight. It was a fairytale ending to their season which had been much talked about in the press due to their unique stadium which wasn’t viewed as up to Premier League standards.

Luton made eleven first-team additions during the summer. However, there is a sense of shrewdness and financial prudency with their additions with the most notable being Tahith Chong from Birmingham and Irish winger Chiedozie Ogbene alongside Centre-Back Tedan Meni from Manchester United.

Luton currently lie in seventeenth position with five-points from their opening nine games.  However, while I fancy them to have an outside chance of staying up, it is likely they will still fall back down to the Championship.

Verdict? Relegation – 18th place finish

Bournemouth

Next up in our Premier League relegation odds is Bouremouth who have been installed at odds of 5/4 to be relegated this upcoming Premier League season. Those odds imply that Bournemouth have a 44.4% chance of being relegated this season.

Based on those odds Bournemouth are the most likely team to be relegated that played in the Premier League last season. The Cherries finished 15th in last season’s Premier League table, 5 points clear of the drop as they got the results needed down the stretch to keep themselves up.

Bournemouth were boosted in the summer  by an influx of talent after a busy summer transfer window. Their most notable signings are CAM Hamed Junior Traore for €25m, left-back Milos Kerkez for €17m, midfielder Romain Faivre for €15m and winger Justin Kluivert for €11m and Tyler Adams late in the window for €23m.

Thus, plenty expected of them to be looking closer to the top of the table this season but that hasn’t happened yet with just three-points from their opening nine games. Bournemouth may find themselves in a little more trouble than expected after all.

Verdict? Relegation – 19th place finish

Burnley

Last season’s Championship winners Burnley are 7/4 to be relegated from the Premier League this season. Those odds imply that there is a 36.4% chance of Burnley getting relegated at the end of this season.

Last season they were far and away the best team in the Championship but of course the Premier League is a whole different ball game. Manager Vincent Kompany of course knows this and has been busy in the transfer market to ensure this club have the talent in their ranks required to stay up this season.

Among the top rivals for Burnley in this transfer market are centre-forward Zeki Amdouni for €18m, goalkeeper James Trafford for €17m, centre-back Jordan Beyer for €15m and Nathan Redmond on a free transfer.

The Clarets are also not sure of Premier League quality players from players already in their squad from last season. Josh Brownhill and Josh Cullen give this team quality in midfield .

Despite currently occupying eighteenth place following four-points from their opening nine games. They should still have enough quality to steer themselves away from the drop.

Verdict? 15th place

Everton

The next team in the Premier League relegation odds is Everton at odds of 11/4  Those odds imply that there is a 26.7% chance that Everton are relegated this season.

Dyche guided them to safety after getting the job in January following a two wins, two draws and one defeat in their last five league games.

However, they are expected to struggle again this season after very few notable incoming during the summer aside from Beto and Chermiti who are unproven strikers in this league along with a veteran Ashley Young.

Dyche is far too good of a manager to get relegated with this squad though even if they may struggle at times. Seven-points from their opening nine games has them sixteenth and I think that is where they will end the season too.

Verdict? 16th place

Other Relegation Candidates

Among the other top candidates for relegation in the upcoming 2023/24 Premier League season are Wolves finished last season thirteenth and despite eleven-points from their opening nine games can be gotten at 11/2. after losing the likes of Neves during the summer.

Nottingham Forrest are another team that could be in trouble this season and have been given odds of 6/1 to be relegated this upcoming season.  Ten-points from their opening nine games suggest otherwise but their ultra-defensive style of play leaves them very open to dropping plenty of points throughout the season.
