Robbie Power: Galopin Des Champs Can Emulate Sizing John

In the wake of the Dublin Racing Festival and with the Cheltenham Festival less than 5 weeks away we caught up with BoyleSports Horse Racing Ambassador Robbie Power.

Power has previously described Galopin Des Champs as one of the best 3-mile chasers he has ever seen. Our Brian O’Keeffe asked Robbie, who rode Sizing John to victory in the 2017 Cheltenham Gold Cup, about how special of a horse Galopin Des Champs is.

Brian from BoyleSports: So Robbie, we’re here with Sizing John. Obviously a fantastic performance at the weekend by Galopin Des Champs, how impressed were you with that? And do you think he can emulate this guy, winning three Gold Cups in a season?

Robbie Power: Yeah, I definitely do think he can emulate Sizing John. He just failed last year Fastorslow beat him in Punchestown.

But he was so impressive at Christmas again, very impressive at the Dublin Racing Festival. And he goes into Cheltenham oozing with confidence and he’d be very very hard to beat. 

It’s just the question mark, can he come out of Cheltenham and bounce back at Punchestown? He wasn’t as good in Punchestown as he was in the Gold Cup.

So has he the resolution to bounce back? Punchestown will be the big one for me. I think barring accidents, he’ll take a lot of beating in the Gold Cup.
