Rory McIlroy Backed To End Major Drought in USPGA Championship

Rory McIlroy is being backed to get back in the major winners’ circle after ending an 18-month wait for a victory at the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow on Sunday.

The Co. Down man shot a -3 closing round of 68 to win the event by one shot and claw himself back into the world’s top ten ahead of the second major championship of the season next week.

McIlroy hasn’t won one of golf’s big four since the 2014 USPGA Championship, but has now gone favourite at 9/1 from 14/1 to win the 2021 renewal next week at Kiawah Island

…the same venue that played host to the second of his four major wins when it last hosted the event in 2012.

The World Number 7 has also moved into 10/1 joint favourite from 14/1 alongside Dustin Johnson for the Open Championship this summer at Royal St. George’s in Kent, the same venue where compatriot Darren Clarke got his hands on the Claret Jug ten years ago.

With some strong form in recent years at Torrey Pines, which hosts the US Open in June, McIlroy is now a 13/8 shot from 2/1 to end a seven-year hiatus by winning a fifth major championship this season.
