Shelbourne Goalkeeper Scott van der Sluis is in hot contention to win Love Island with things set to boil over for favourites Jess and Sammy. The Welsh native shared his love of the Irish capital with Dubliner Catherine, but the door appears open to a match with Leah as the pair shared an intimate chat on Monday night’s episode.
Support for Scott came after viewers were teased with a bitter fallout between 5/2 favourite Jess and partner Sammy (7/2), who is starting to lose support having been overtaken by Tyrique (11/4) as the most likely man to form part of the winning couple.
The prospect of an Irish victory received a blow when fan favourite Catherine Agbaje was left in tears by Andre’s shock exit from the villa last week and her chances of sharing the £50,000 prize money have since drifted out to 7/1 from 4/1.

Love Island’s Scott van der Sluis is 22 years old. He was born on January 9th, 2001 which makes him one of the youngest contestants on the show this year.

Scott is a professional footballer who most recently played as a goalkeeper for Shelbourne FC who are one of the top football clubs in Ireland. The 22-year-old plays as a goalkeeper and boasts an impressive youth career where the played with both Man United and Liverpool along with a spell at Swansea City who are one of the top clubs in Wales.
Scott made waves in Ireland when news broke of his decision to leave Shelbourne for the Love Island villa. Shelbourne manager and Irish football legend Damien Duff joked about the situation saying “I was shocked and saddened that Scott chose a villa in Mallorca full of beautiful single women over myself, the staff and the players”.
Despite Duff’s light hearted remarks he did close the door on the idea of a return for Scott to the team when he said, “I have tried to create a really serious working environment here and he won’t be coming back, but I wish him well”.
Scott suggested that Love Island offered him the chance to go for something different, “I’ve loved my time at Shels, Football is all I’ve ever done, all I’ve ever known. So this is a new and exciting opportunity for a change-up in life.”
Where is Scott van der Sluis From?
The 22 year old is from Connah’s Quay in the north of Wales. His hometown of Connah’s Quay has a population of just under 17,000 people and is located very near to the border between Wales and England with the city of Chester only 6 miles away.
