Seeley’s Selections – Rep. of Ireland v England Stats & Tips

The Republic of Ireland face England in a completely pointless friendly at the Aviva on Sunday and despite the game being a low-key affair, I’ve found a nice couple of wagers to keep us interested in the action.

Both teams are expected to play a whole host of fringe players with Ireland having one eye on the crucial Euro 2016 qualifier with Scotland and the England players with one eye on the beaches of Dubai.

England arrive in Dublin full of confidence with seven wins in their last eight matches and on current form many would be tempted by the industry best 11/10 with BoyleSports on Woy’s Boys, but I’m not.

The Three Lions like likely to give debuts to both Leicester’s Jamie Vardy (who I wouldn’t recognise if he walked past me in the street) and QPR’s Charlie Austin, who, despite his side’s relegation this season, does deserves his opportunity. If those two lead the England attack, though, then bang goes any chance of a win.

In saying that, though, just how important will this one be for Ireland? Not very important would be my answer.

Martin O’Neil also looks set to ring the changes with Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick expected to be given their chance to impress and if I can’t back the English at the stated prices, I couldn’t be backing the Irish either at another industry best 3/1 with BoyleSports.

It’s really hard to have a serious bet on this match until we see the starting XI’s from both teams, but in saying that I just can’t resist the 23/10 with BoyleSports on this game ending in a draw.

The last four matches between these two have ended in stalemates and at the prices, in a game that neither side really want to be participating in, that looks a very fair price to me.

The two played out a pretty entertaining 1-1 draw at Wembley in May last year and that was amazingly the fourth consecutive 1-1 stalemate between these two sides.

Incredibly in the last 11 meetings between the two nations SEVEN have ended by that score-line.

The 1-1 draw is 5/1 with BoyleSports and that is the most likely and probable correct-score again so that’s what will be carrying my money.

It’s very hard to pick a first goalscorer with so many doubts and question marks over who will start.

Wayne Rooney will look big at 4/1 if he leads his nation out at the Aviva as the Man United striker has been the main man for England in 2015. Shane Long will be popular for the Irish at 13/2 with BoyleSports after he opened the scoring at Wembley last year.

The player I really like is Arsenal’s Theo Walcott at a very tempting 7/1 with BoyleSports.

Walcott ended the season on fire scoring four goals in his last two Arsenal matches and was the first goalscorer in both of those games.

He’s expected to be given the opportunity to start in his preferred striker role in Dublin and of all the players on show he has something to play for as he’s expected to start talks on his Arsenal contract next week.
