Sheffield United vs Newcastle Preview
Sheffield United’s Form
Five games into the season and Sheffield United have a sole point to their name. They lost their first three games all by one goal 0-1 against Crystal Palace, 2-1 against Nottingham Forrest and 1-2 against Manchester City.
Since then they earned their first point with a 2-2 draw but followed that positive result with another one-goal defeat. This time 2-1 against Tottenham last weekend.
Sheffield United were promoted to the Premier League following their second-place Championship finish last season. The Blades came ten points behind league winners Burnley, but eleven points ahead of third-place finishers and playoff winners Luton Town. That 2nd place finish secured a return to the Premier League league for the first time since their relegation in the 20/21 season.
During the off-season, there was naturally some changes in personnel at the club. Notably from their last spell in the league; Jack O’Connell retired, Billy Sharp went to La Galaxy, Enda Stevens to Stoke City and their biggest loss was Sander Berge who went to Burnley.
Sheffield brought in six players to offset those losses. Most notably, Gustavo Hamer from Coventry City and Cameron Archer from Aston Villa.
Newcastle’s Form
The season started so well for the club following their demolition job 5-1 victory against Aston Villa. The goals that day came from Sandro Tonali, Alexander Isak (2), Callum Wilson and Harvey Barnes.
Following that victory, Newcastle had a difficult spell where they lost games 1-0 against Man City, 1-2 against Liverpool and 3-1 against Brighton. Last weekend the club returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Brentford. That win was then followed by a 0-0 draw against AC Milan at the San Siro in the Champions League on Tuesday. A positive result by any standard.
Newcastle entered the season on an upward trajectory, going from eleventh in the league to fourth place last season under Eddie Howe. That fourth place finish qualified the club for the Champions League for the first time since the 2003/04 season.

Sheffield United v Newcastle Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Sheffield United 0-2 Newcastle
Sheffield United will prove tough to beat so don’t expect a hammering of any sort. Newcastle, despite their midweek game, have a good break from Tuesday to Sunday and I think they win here and build momentum in the league following a difficult start.
Best Bet: Newcastle By Exactly 2 Goals @ 16/5
