Simon Harris Gambled To Replace Leo Varadkar As Fine Gael Leader

Next Fine Gael Leader

Outright Betting

Simon Harris has made a significant move up the betting this week to replace Leo Varadkar as leader of Fine Gael.

The Minister for Further and Higher Education has supported the Tánaiste over the leaking of a confidential health document saying his apology was ‘good enough’ for him, although Varadkar has confirmed that he is willing to make a statement to police should they wish to quiz him on the matter.

Although, former Health Minister Harris has now made a big move in the betting to be the next Fine Gael leader after reports of deepening discontent with Varadkar’s leadership.

Harris is said to be growing in popularity with the Parliamentary Party and has seen his odds slashed into 4/1 from 12/1 to succeed Varadkar.

Harris backed Simon Coveney over Varadkar in the 2017 leadership contest and it’s Coveney who remains the 4/7 favourite to step up when the vacancy arrives.

Previous support for Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe has started to recede seeing him eased out to 6/1 from 7/2, while Minister for Justice Helen McEntee is also on the drift at 10/1 from 6/1.
