Skywalker Barry Shortens For Michael Fortune Memorial Derby Plate

The Mark O’Donovan trained Skywalker Barry was sensational when winning his heat of the Michael Fortune Memorial Derby Plate on Saturday night as he skipped around in 29.34.

This son of Droopys Jet – Calzaghe Jan won the Juvenile Derby last year and has excelled since with the 2021 Waterford Select Stakes and Clona Blaze at Stud Open 525 also secured by the speedster.

We have cut him into the 11/8 favourite from 5/2 following his win with qualifiers Madabout Cody 16/1 from 20/1 and Callaway Mort 20/1 from 25/1.

Heat 1 went to Sweep The Yard for Graham Holland with his odds into 14/1 from 20/1 after his impressive 29.58 victory.

Fast Fit Paddy was three and a half lengths back in second with his chances eased out to 10/1 from 6/1. Third place Kameko got in as a reserve and is 14/1.

It was all about Droopys Gloss in heat 3 as this brilliant daughter of Coolavanny Jap – Droopys Talia won in a blistering time of 29.32 for trainer Murt Leahy.

That was only her seventh race, and she doesn’t turn two years of age until next month. The future looks very bright after he odds were cut into 6/1 from 12/1. Moanteen Maestro is 16/1 from 33/1 while Angry Tornado is 8/1 from 12/1.

The final heat went to the talented Gaytime Milo for Graham Holland who enjoyed a very successful night. Milo won in 29.59 and is 10/1 from 12/1 with Darbys Delight (16/1) and Evermore (33/1) grabbing the qualifying spots.
